This item is crafted of high quality glass and individually calibrated to achieve an accuracy of 2˚F while accurately displaying changes in barometric pressure. To read the current temperature, observe the number written on the hanging tab on the lowest sphere in the top group. To observe changes in barometric pressure, slide the plastic marker to current water level in spout. When the water level lowers weather will improve, when the lever rises, poor weather will occur. While the storm glass will not indicate exact barometric pressure in numerical values, it is still regarded as an accurate monitor of air pressure changes. This item will arrive empty and can be filled with any color liquid desired using the included filling kit. Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642) was an Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution. His findings provided the framework for Newton's laws of motion and Einstein's theory of relativity. His discovery that the density of a liquid changes in proportion to its temperature, inspired the invention and explains the accuracy of the "Galileo Thermometer". Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832) was a German writer and politician whose work influenced the likes of Nietzsche, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms. Goethe was also keenly involved in studies of natural science and color theory. He developed and popularized his simple but effective “Weather Ball Barometer“ using principles developed by Torricelli.
