Certainly bright enough for non moving subjects. A strobe still might be better for some subjects, if motion can be an issue. Obviously, being a constant light, one is limited by the shutter speed at any given aperture. My first tests were of a coffee bean. One is 2x and the other is 5x…both shot handheld with my Canon MP-E 65mm on a 5Ds R. It fits on both the MP-E 65mm and my EF 100mm f/2.8L and is light enough to take just about anywhere. Being able to make small adjustments to the right & left sides adds a bit more versatility.I’ve not heard great things about using it with AA batteries, so I picked up their rechargeable at the same time. For what it adds in cost, it probably makes up for in alleviating aggravation. Works without a hitch and recommended.

Good things about this:(1) The cold shoe mount is very well-made. Attaches and detaches easily and is very secure. Unlike some other macro lights (there's one with two flexible arms out there) that has the worst cold shoe mount ever made. Not this one. This one is excellent.(2) The light is nice and bright and you can adjust one half to be brighter than the other. Made a huge difference in my macro photos and allowed me to use faster shutter speeds and narrower apertures. (Still have to stack, but I can do 2x macro without a tripod thanks to this light.)(3) If you have Godox flashes, it uses the same battery as some models so it was nice to not have to buy another battery. That said it would have been nice if this came with a battery, but it does not.Wish list item: Would be cool to be able to adjust the color temperature to match the ambient lighting. Sometimes if the ambient light is warmer, this light can be a bit harsh and fluorescent white, then you could have a mix of light temperatures in your shot.

First, I tried the cheaper $40 LED ring light that is currently Amazon‘s choice. I found it to be flimsy and I didn’t like the quality of light it emitted. So then I ordered this Godox light. It was slightly more expensive, as I got a returned one for $60. And it was fine. The difference is night and day. It has a much more solid build. It’s brighter and it has a diffuser over the LEDs, so it puts out a very nice light. And the results are 10 times better!I use it in my home studio to take pictures of objects. Right now I’m taking pictures of bullion coins. It does a fantastic job. I didn’t esnt a flash for this kind of work. I like the continuous light so that I can see what I’m doing on the cameras screen before I shoot.Amazon, get your act together, and make this your recommended LED ring light!

I really like this ring light but using AA batteries do not last long. The lithium battery lasts much longer and you can recharge it. You can also remove the ring from the lens and hand hold it for different lighting angles.

This is a fantastic macro light, excellent control ad easy to use. The battery life when used with the godox compatible rechargeable battery is great.

The light is on constantly, batteries expire quickly if left on. Might be ok in a studio, not so much in the field.
