I use this device most often to measure the moisture of my Indonesian green coffee beans that normally have a higher than average moisture content; often between 11.5 and 12%. If there is excessive moisture I will then plan to lengthen the Dry time. I also use it whenever I plan to roast a new bean and to help problem solving a roast issue with a familiar favorite. The measuring cup works/functions to fill & tamp and level (bottom of cup) & empty the calibrating chamber. I can't speak to accuracy since I don't have a comparative method. I am very pleased with it's easy of use thus far. I've been a home hobby roaster for 8 years and this is my first time using a moisture measuring device; my Hottop w/Artisan software in the "Roast Properties: Bean info" window has a data entry for moisture before and after. But the device went I fill it with roasted beans will indicate the moisture level is too low to measure. Guessing other (more expensive?) devices must be more sensitive and able to measure lower levels.

Simple and precise device. Flexible enough to use with different grains. When compared with other more expensive meters, the readings are the same. Good one!

Less than half the price of an agratronix, but can it take reliable messurments? Well Im very happy to say Yes!It arrived in perfect condition, and the first thing I did with it was take it to a coffee quality lab to calibrate it(coffee from colombia is not the same than coffee from brazil or vietnam so it is always a good idea to calibrate) the people at the lab were actualy amazed as how fast it can take measurements that are repeatable and acurate.Taking a measurement is very simple, just fill the container with coffee bean (not parchment), then place the cap on top and apply pressure with your hand until it moves down and beeps, after the beep the result of the measurement will apear on the screen. But how precise are its measurements? Well after calibration, the value of humidity used to calibrate it will set the most reliable range of measurements, lets say you used a 12% humidity sample to calibrate it, when you take a measurment of another sample that is within 1% of that value the measurment will be very accurate but the farther the humidity is from the calibration value the more it will drift, For coffee I would recomend to do the calibration with a 12% sample so you have perfect measurments as soon as you start entering the acceptable humidity range, as soon as you hit 12% the dring process is complete, even sooner some times if the coffee is hot.The only con it has is that it cant take measurements on parchment, but normaly measuring parchment is not acurrate and the closer the humidity gets to the 11~12% range the more important acurracy is due to how fast the grain dries at that stage, and for this price thats hardly a con.I think that parchment can be meassured selecting another kind of grain with a heavy calibration but that's something I still have to test.I would recomend this product to any coffee producer, it's a great product with a great price, you are not wastenig money for a expensive brand sticker on top of a chinesse generic.

Works great! Well I've only had this for less than a month but when I found out how to use it, it works great, it takes but a second to measure the moisture content of dried corn. The instruction is not that helpful, I had to google videos on how to use it. I found a thai video in thai language that I dont understand but by just watching what the guy was doing I found out what to do.You have to fill the chamber all the way to the top so that the switch when you push the lid down makes contact and makes the reading of the moisture. This was not written on the enclosed manual that came with the unit.Update to my previous review. This moisture meter read 1 percent lower than the place where we sold our corn. To me that's pretty close. Im happy with this product.

We needed a tool to measure moisture in our green coffee and this does the trick! Very easy to use. Helps use determine a starting point for roasting. Would recommend.

I bought this for a family member living in Venezuela. The company he contracts with buys Cacao in bulk and he has to determine the moisture content. Before this tester, people used a two prong devise that was unable to register under 5% moisture. This tester requires opening the bags and removing a sample to be tested. However, it measures under 5% which is required by his company. The other method is faster since you only pierce the bag, but is not precise. This method is more labor intensive, (opening and closing of the bags) but accurate.
