Hole saws provide a whole bonus version of cutting. They're very specific to their function, but they make life so much easier. But they rough cut & this thing's the simplest way to smooth those cuts. These sanders offer a variety of uses - I'm looking to experiment. But I primarily got this to smooth out the hole saw's work. It does that well. Very useful tool.

This is a very well constructed drill mounted drum sander. Great for freeform shaping of wood for sculpture and general woodworking. My only complaint is I wish the smooth part of shaft that your grill grips on was a bit longer
