This is the perfect solution for anyone trying to hang a door without help. Granted, I don't hang doors on a daily basis, but I have a couple that are aging. They need to be removed and rehung because the hinges have caused the doors to hang off-vertical, binding at the top and missing the strike plate. This tool is super easy to install under the door to hold it at the precise height required. It's super easy to raise or lower and remains stable. They are solid and reliable. I found this to be a great investment for the handy DIYer.Isn't it incredible how the right tool can make a challenging task so much easier? Hanging doors solo can be quite tricky, but with this gadget, it's a breeze. If you're tackling more DIY projects around the house, investing in tools that provide stability and precision can truly enhance your experience.

There are many tools like this one. Top end ones sell for $200 and I can see why. The gauge of the metal is much heavier on those contractor grade units. However, if you are not using these every single day and just occasional use, it works just find. It's not finished in the same quality as an expensive unit but it does work. There is no way it will hold the advertised weight though. For my 8' tall solid wood doors that weight 80-90 lbs each, this works just fine. I used to just shove wedges under the bottom of the door but this is so much more manageable. However, my use is more practical than most. Most door hinges have a removable pin and therefore you can screw one hinge side to the door frame and the other to the door. Then just hold the door in place with the toe of your shoe under the bottom of the door an wiggle the door to get the hinge pins into place. My hinges were all ball bearing type and the pins are not practically removable. So now you have to hold the door exactly into place with the hinges attached to the door and then get the door jamb part screwed into the frame. That is very tricky without a tool like this. Regardless of the hinge type, it is a useful tool. Now my wife does not have to come and help me remove/install the doors we refinished.

I ordered this door installation kit to make it easier for me install doors by myself. After setting up the brackets, I was disappointed with the results. Here is why.My first photo shows a door cutoff mounted to the two brackets. As you can see, the bracket sides are not parallel which makes it quite a challenge to center a door and keep it plumb. The second photo shows the door cutoff in the upright position. Note that even though my floor is level, the door cutoff mounted securely to the brackets is not, as shown with the level. The last photo shows that the brackets have a large capacity but, it also shows that the bottom corners are rounded which will skew the door. It also shows that the two brackets are not identical, one is slightly bent. The included shims help with centering a door but it is a bit of a juggling act to get everything into place. Because of the rounded bottom of the bracket, I had to use a small shim under the door to raise it above the curve and to help keep it plumb. The additional shim under the door also increases the minimum gap that will be left between the floor and the bottom of the door after installation. With all the issues and the cumbersome tweaking required to use these brackets, you may be better off just shimming the door in place while you work and forget using the brackets. Otherwise, if you are working on a hard surface, it is convenient to be able to maneuver the door while you work. That said, I don’t think these brackets would be very useful or even safe on carpeted surfaces, in my opinion.Do you need these brackets? Probably not. But if you work alone, on flat surfaces and have several doors to install, this product may be worth your investment. With a little bit of tweaking, of course. 😉

I am always working on projects and most of the time I’m by myself. Without help and an extra set of hands, this made moving and installation so much easier. My door is extremely heavy, and this dolly handled it without any issues or struggling on my part. The maneuverability was great, as the wheels rotated smoothly, and they have a locking mechanism. The clamps easily adjust for both the height and width to securely hold the door. This is one of those products you didn’t know you needed until you got it. I wish I had ordered it years ago. It made such a big difference in the length of time it took vs. the doors I have hung without this tool.

I got these because I sometimes need a "helping hand" when installing or hanging a door. With the height adjustment on each wheel, you can get the positioning of the door exactly the way you want it to be. Just remember when the door is hung to lower the adjustment screws, so you aren't fighting them when you go to remove it from beneath the door. I forgot to do this at first while I pondered "How do you get them out?" Oh yeah, lower the screws, lol.One thing is that they work better on hardwood (or similar) floors than carpet, I mean you can use them on carpet, but it's not nearly as easy as it is with a hard surface. For right around a hundred bucks, you really can't go wrong. They seem to be made well and should last a good while. Recommended.

I'm finishing my basement by myself and I got this to help install six doors. It's a bit of a hassle to get it set up and if you're working by yourself it may be worth the hassle, especially with multiple doors. But if you're installing just one door, depending on your experience, it may be easier/faster to just set it in the rough opening and shim it as needed. I've never seen Tom Silva (from "This Old House") use one of these! It comes with hardwood blocks to accommodate different thickness doors and self-adhesive rubber pads to put on the metal surfaces. The clamps hold the dollys in place okay, but the dollys are somewhat flexible, compromising the clamp force. But their description of "handsfree" is comical!
