I bought this a while ago and finally got around to installing it on my toy hauler before the wet season started. This tape was easy to install along all my trim pieces where I had to install screws and then put the vinyl cover over them. It is pliable as it is supposed to be and it squeezed down nicely as I screwed into it. Time will tell if it will hold up and not get brittle.

I've never used butyl tape before, so I can't compare this to any name brand product or to something that I used in the past, but it worked just as I hoped it would. The role is substantial, a little squashed on one side from the travel, but that doesn't change the way it works at all. If it hadn't been flat on one side when I received it, it probably would have been the next time I use it after spending time in my garage. The price is much lower than anything I could find at either of our home improvement stores. I imagine that there are times when having a several inch wide strip would be beneficial, but this is perfect for any narrower applications, The strip is 1/2" wide but you can easily stretch it thinner, put multiple strips next to one another and smush them together, or compact it a little in application if you need it to be just a little bit wider. My terms are not technical, and I can't rate this for a professional who uses this all of the time. For a fixer of my own things and one who is always taking on a new project, this is something to keep in your arsenal of tools.Whenever my can-and-does-fix-anything-perfectly partner has trouble with something leaking I joke that I will chew a stick of gum for him to put on it. This would be a much better option, and would be much more likely to actually work for the purpose. It sticks, it stretches, it spreads, it can be mushed and shaped and squashed between things. It is wound on a roll so that you can peel it apart, but the "backing" isn't backing, it is a strip of plastic with the purpose of making this a roll of butyl tape rather than a box of butyl putty. I think you could use it to stick a poster to a tree just as easily as you could use it to stick a brick to a cinderblock wall in your basement, or to patch a little hole next to a roof vent.

One less star because mine came in a bit beaten up, and for the application 1/8" is a bit thin. I used this in my crawlspace to make the plastic adhere to the wall. This is pretty thin, compared to what I've used, as 1/2 isn't so wide but this could be used for narrow jobs. Its just as stretchy and cuts just as well as the other brands I've been using.

For all you ham radio operators out there, this stuff can take the place of coax-seal. It is supplied as a 1/8 inch thick by 1/2 inch wide strip on a roll with paper between the layers so it doesn't end up as a big ball of goo. You can use it to make a seal that is waterproof by just laying the 1/2 inch wide strip between the two surfaces you want to seal. You can form it into a ball or a rope and use it to seal irregular gaps. It is really sticky, it sticks to its self and to any clean dry surface. It is sticky but it does not stick to your hands like epoxy does. Anyway, if you need to seal out moisture this is what you need.I am going to use it to seal the coax connectors on my ham radio antennas.

I ordered this butyl tape to seal the seams in the new metal roof over my chicken coop. I have no prior experience using such products, but using butyl tape was recommended for my roofing project. The gray color of this tape is a close match for my gray roofing (not that the chickens care if it matches). This butyl tape has a smooth texture, and I really like that it is self-adhesive. It seems like this product would be handy for sealing many other DIY projects. Helpful hint: make sure the surface you are applying this to is dry!

I'm using this to wrap around a hose bib flashing piece to seal between the flashing and my house's siding. Probably not the right thing for the job but the gap is too thick for caulk so I'm using this so I can put a thin layer of caulk over the butyl tape. So not exactly how it's supposed to be used, but the plus is that it can be applied easily even though it's a "tape" since I can peel and break off sections to apply where needed.

I've been using butyl tape for many years, for repairs and sealing skylights and other fixtures on my RV, and for various other applications around the house. This is very handy stuff to have on hand!A lot of butyl tape I've purchased locally looks more like plumbers putty, has sort of a crumbly texture, and needs to be kneaded to be made smooth. This tape already has a very smooth texture, great tackiness, and a nice gray color that I really prefer. I'll be using this soon to install a new shower skylight on my motorhome, on a TPO rubber roof. I always put butyl tape underneath the flange, screw it down, then put self-leveling sealant over the flange. This 50' roll arrived in a flat box, and during shipping was flattened out on a couple sides, but that won't affect its function at all. Great product in my opinion, and sold at a very reasonable asking price of around $13 for a 50 ft roll. âââââ

We keep this with our RV because its almost necessary to have something a butyl putty tape around. Ive used butyl in so many quick and long term seals that having this putty in a pinch is almost a must have.Especially when traveling in your RV and you dont know when something might break or need a quick fix.The stuff is super tacky and once places it will mold into the shape you need it for.I love this stuff honestly. Its like a moldable caulk or sealer when you need it.Great stuff to have on hand.

I used this tape to seal a small gap around an exterior vent and it worked perfectly. The tape is easy to mould, which was great for fitting it snugly into the uneven edges around the vent frame. Once applied, it stuck firmly and held up during a heavy rainstorm. I particularly enjoyed how simple it was to use. Just tear off what you need, shape it, and press it into place. It’s less messy than caulking and cleanup is minimal. Definitely worth keeping a roll on hand for quick repairs.

I wanted to install a cover over my vent for my bathroom in the RV. It didn't come with one so when it rained water would come in while in use. I used this to seal under the cover so water couldn't get under it. Pretty much works the same as putty but alot tackier. So I guess it also acted as extra adhesive. Anyways it was easy to use. Mind you I could have done the same with caulking but everyone recommend butyl tape so that's what I used. I can see alot of uses for this stuff and will be using it on our old plow truck to seal the windshield that has a slight leak at the one corner. The roll is plenty long enough that I should be able to do a lot of little sealing projects with it.

I ordered this without a specific job in mind; it just seemed like a useful thing to have on hand in case I needed it. It’s not quite as sticky as I expected, but it’s easy to mold and can tackle a variety of things that other tapes can’t. That said, I’d recommend handling it as little as you need to because skin oils seem to reduce its tackiness. This is a 1/2†tape that works well for smaller tasks. It’s easy to use, and I had no problems stretching/shaping it. It’s a non-hardening formula, so it’s best suited for jobs that require flexibility rather than strength. I think it would be good for repairing seals around windshields or sunroofs (a job I have coming up soon), but I’m not sure how durable it’ll be over time. Since it doesn’t harden, I think it could be damaged fairly easily. That can be said for any similar putty tape, however.I think $19.99 is a fair price for a 50’ roll, but it might not be a bad idea to shop around a little before buying. My rating: 4 stars

I used this butyl tape to seal my living room window frame, and it worked wonders! The cold drafts are completely gone now, and applying it was surprisingly simple. The tape is flexible and sticks well, making it super easy to adjust as needed. The quality feels top-notch, and considering how durable and effective it is, the price is absolutely worth it. A great find for anyone tackling sealing or repair projects!
