Its a caliper Hornady got from somewhere and they put their name on it, its a $40.00 caliper, not a $200.00 one, we are not talking about measuring a crankshaft journal or a turbine impeller, which you CAN NOT compare to chambering a projectile, this thing is made to measure wire rope and things like that, I compared it to my recently certified calibrated swiss made Brown & Sharpe caliper and I am happy with the results, it sure brings more peace of mind to have a super accurate caliper, but at the end of the day, a caliper can not detect a cracked brass or the wrong powder which is more dangerous. I don't see why you need that much precision to load a projectile, factory ammo that does not jam does not have the measurements consistency that requires a better caliper. I understand the issues with the batteries, digital readouts and things falling apart, but again, its a $40.00 caliper. Stop crying about it, and spend more money, if you are familiar with this stuff, you should know better.

I have used other brands for several years that cost much more than these. I have been pleasantly surprised with these. I couldn’t justify the an expensive set. I won’t use them daily and they seam sturdy and operate smoothly

I checked it with some old machinists gauges and it's as reapeatable as you'd ever need unless you're an aerospace engineer. Certainly fine within the stated tolerances. Easily switches between metric and standard. Slides smoothly - no "grit" like you typically see with bargain priced instruments. Comes with a spare battery (nice, since they always seem to burn out when you're in the middle of a project). Large, legible display. Clearly written instructions. At this price I'm guessing it's made in China (no markings that I can find). But it's much better quality than my old dial calipers for about the same cost. In my experience, anything with the Hornady brand on it can be trusted implicitly and these calipers seem to be no exception.

First the 1,2 and three star reviews where 95% talking about the electronic calipers which this IS NOT ! Now for the sad facts of life in dial caliper land: I have been reloading for over 47 years, go a late start when I was in my late 20s. I like Hornady press and dies because of off-set press and the great LNL die locking system and the fact that they make full length dies that make STRAIGHT CASES / NECKS! (straight rounds go straight). I have gone thru 7 dial calipers during this time, MOST being Hornady. They all die the same, namely they start jumping around in their readings; stopping to check, you open and close and no longer get the dial needle stopping at zero but anywhere it feels like. SOoo why keep coming back to them? I get tens of thousands of good reading before they die, (most of the time), and the alternative is to pay exorbitant amounts of money for some super-duper brand that dies in about the same amount of time and in the same way. Sad to say I know of no reasonable alternative! Get one, hope it works well for 4 or 5 years and get another, (PS: have two at any given time as you know not when one will die but it will always be when you are deep into needing it). Once upon a time one could spend good money and get one that last a life time, hand made in the USA no doubt...no longer. My older brother still uses our Dad's dial caliper, (He was a machinist), that is now in the area of 90 years old +/- , (a guess but close enough),and it is just as precise as these when new. I will not state the manufacturers name as you would go buy one they make now and they no longer make anything of that quality. Indeed, I paid a few hundred for one of their current models and it failed out in about the same time frame as the Hornady Chinese in-ports.. And yes I have loads and rifle that shoot .2 " and 300 yard test range so I do know what is required to get that done. I hope my time spent here helps some re-loaders out there face this sad situation....(PS: if it starts skipping around and not returning to zero try flushing it out with alcohol, sprained till it runs out see if it doesn't come back to life?)

I got this for reloading, checking case length, overall length and comparing bell width to casing width. I compared readings to my trusty dial caliper and it's within 1/1000th of an inch.. It comes with a spare battery and a case. It turns it self off if you leave it on too long, has a manual on-off button, a zero button and measures in either millimeters or inches. I've been using it daily for 6 months and it's still going strong with it's original battery. The included instructions explain everything you'll need to know about how to use it for various ways of measuring things, outside and inside width, depth, etc..

I am very pleased with the Hornaday Digital Caliper set. Nice hard plastic case with a spare battery and a cutout in the padding for that spare. Great heavy stainless steel set of 6" calipers, easy to zero out, nice large digital display for the aging eyes, easy to use buttons, US and Metric measurements, feel very rugged. These are a great addition to the a reloading arsenal or the general toolbox. Overall these are an awesome value that would be very hard to find a better set. I would highly recommend to friends, family or anyone wanting a good inexpensive digital caliper at an amazing value!
