About the Use of OculXX VR Headset

Some users might find the display transfer speed in the Quest2 software just reaches up to 2.9Gbps when the VR headset is connected via this PCIe card, even lower than the speed of the original USB 3.0 port of the computer. Regarding this, we ran some tests and here's our theory and conclusion:

  1. All of Redcomets PCIe cards are compatible with VR devices including Quest2 and OculXX RifX S and can work with them properly.
  2. It's confirmed that the display speed, when the VR device is connected to the USB 3.2 expansion card, might be lower than the speed when it's connected to the USB 3.0 port on the motherboard directly. The VR display speed reaches up to 2.9G in the motherboard port and up to 2.0G in the expansion port.
  3. When the VR headset is connected to the USB 3.2 port and the USB 3.0 port on the X299 motherboard directly, the speed shows at 1.9 G in the USB 3.2 port and at 2.5G in the USB 3.0 port.
  4. The VR headset can work without any issue even when the speed shows at 1.x G.
  5. The USB cables make little difference on the change of the display speed based on the test results of USB 3.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 cables ranging from 15 cm to 200 cm.We attempted to contact OculXX several times but failed to get any effective response. Based on the information above, we speculate that the Quest2 software testing algorithm conflicts with the USB 3.2 Gen 2 main controller chip so that the transfer speed measured by the system is lower than the actual speed. Please rest assured that this won't affect your gaming experience.

USB 3.2 Gen 2 High Speed Expansion Card with PD Charging

Inateck KU8212 is a multifunctional PCIe to USB expansion card with 8 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports. The 2 USB C ports support USB PD protocol and each one can provide up to 30W charging power. The 6 USB A ports support USB BC 1.2 protocol and each one can provide up to 7.5W charging power. Compared with similar products, Inateck KU8212 can reach faster data transfer speed and provide higher charging power.

Note: This card is powered by the PCIe slot and can provide up to 100W of charging power. Since the actual power is related to the chassis power supply, please check whether the chassis power supply can bear additional power consumption before use.

For an assembled PC, you can use the total power of the chassis power supply minus the power of the motherboard, CPU, GPU and other components. For a branded PC, you can contact the computer manufacturer to get the reserved power of the chassis.

Due to the limitation of charging protocol, if the device being charged does not support PD or BC 1.2 charging protocol, some problems might occur such as slow charging speed or device not in charge. The USB C expansion ports support 4 output voltage grades (5V/9V/12V/15V), and the USB A expansion ports support up to 5V output. To ensure the charging effect, please make sure that your device supports PD or BC 1.2 charging protocol.

16Gbps Sharing Speed

Inateck KU8212 can expand 6 USB A 3.2 Gen 2 ports and 2 USB C 3.2 Gen 2 ports from a PCIE×16 slot. Each port can reach up to 10 Gbps transfer rate when used solely and these 8 USB ports share a 16Gbps transfer rate.

Note: The bandwidth allocation of this product is as follows. To reach up to 16 Gbps data rate, please make sure that both the connected devices and USB cables support USB 3.2 Gen 2. Since the USB 3.0 protocol caps bandwidth at 5Gbps, following the buckets effect, the USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports cannot provide faster speed when the connected storage devices, computers, adapter cables, and adapters are with USB 3.0 specifications.

Overcurrent Protection

Equipped with overcurrent protection chip, this card requires less response time for overcurrent protection than those with traditional fuses. Once the PC power output becomes abnormal, the protection chip will cut off the current output, and at the same time (if the system supports) an overcurrent protection prompt will come up, which can help you resolve problems in time to secure your computer and devices.

Having passed the IEC61000-4-2 Ed.2 ESD test, this PCIe card can effectively prevent long-term damage to electronic components from static electricity.

Why does the total bandwidth just reach 16 Gbps when KU8212 is plugged into a PCIe ×16 slot?

KU8212 has an ASM3142 host controller chip which supports up to PCIe 3.0 x2, and the remaining lanes are mainly used for power supply. Thus, the bandwidth can only reach up to 16 Gbps, the transfer speed of PCIe 3.0 ×2, even when KU8212 is plugged into a PCIe ×16 slot in the host.PCIe 3.0 uses 128b/130b encoding, which improves the utilization of PCIe bandwidth compared to the 8b/10b encoding used by PCIe 2.0. Therefore, KU8212 can reach a total data rate of 1.969 GB/s theoretically.

Note: According to the actual test result, the total data rate achieved by KU8212 is around 1.6 GB/s. The speed difference is caused by the bandwidth loss during the PCIe to USB conversion.

Wide Compatbility

KU8212 is compatible with Windows 11/10/8/7 (32/64 bit), Linux and Mac OS 10.8.2 and later.Driver for win7 is required.

I did a little research and ended up choosing this expansion card. Works like a charm. Inserted the expansion card into my open PCIe slot, ran device manager, confirmed installation, and a quick reboot was all it took to get this chip up and running. Literally plug and play for my system! Works with my AS Rock B450 PRO4 motherboard, and AMD Ryzen 7 2700.Very much looking forward to begin utilizing USB-C capability. The only confusion (which was my own) was the recommendation to use the manufacturers driver in the installation manual, which is outdated (and links to an internet explorer 7zip file!).The ASMedia USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.10 (Microsoft) comes from my motherboard and runs this chipset.

The faceplate isn't attached for some bizarre reason, and if you don't torque the screws absolutely the exact same it won't align and you'll be blocked by the faceplate unable to use any of the USB-A ports. Solution? With the faceplate very very loose, grab some USB-A cables and plug them in then keep tightening the faceplate screws. Don't overdo it because you might strip the threads but having the USB cables plugged in will ensure the faceplate is properly lined up.After installing the card, you'll probably have to do the same thing as you button up the back of the computer case else the case frame will get in the way.Drivers OMG Drivers! There's bugs in the Windows 11 driver that is lurking on your desktop, so don't freak out. Windows update and update again. you'll eventually get the correct driver. I've had this for almost two months and it's fast! Even better, it is recognized and supported by Linux so when I boot to different operating systems the card doesn't care. No burps or flatulence, just happiness.

On my motherboard which has 3 16x slots. Only one actually has the pins for 16x. So in reality it's only plugged into an 8x slot as far as pins are concerned. The real 16x slot is for my GPU. I would suggest to the manufacturer to add an optional sata power port for such cases. (Who actually has multiple 16x slots in their motherboards? Not very many I suppose.) Also the USB slots are backwards compared to what most motherboard orientations would be (at least opposite to every one I have ever used). This makes it very annoying when moving cords around. Compared to everything else I've installed in my pc, this is the easiest by far. It's 2 screws. Use a USB plugged in to help align and it's so easy. I would also suggest to the manufacturer to increase the packaging. This was basically shipped in bubble wrap and 2 layers of thin cardboard. It's working now though so as long as I don't actually use the advertised power I should be happy with it.

I bought a different brand of USB card, and it would randomly freeze my computer. I bought this one to replace it and it has worked like a charm since I got it. The only minor inconvenience is having to install the backplate, but that was so minor that it's not worth taking any stars. This works as designed. I would highly recommend this card.

First of all, you have to manually install the face plate. It only comes with 1 face plate, it makes zero sense why the customer has to install the plate. It does come with a tiny little screwdriver, but that doesn't make it right. Second, the plate was warped. I spent about 20 minutes trying to mess with it to get it to wedge into the slot, and when it finally did.. The plate hole was off and was a nightmare to get the screw in to hold it. I also had to remove the plate from the PCIE board several times as the ports would not align with the holes in the plate. It took several tries to finally force the ports into the holes, hold it in place with one hand, and drop the screw several times with the other trying to get it into the screw hole. The tiny screwdriver is barely magnetized so if your hand barely twitches, the screw falls off.Now for the usage issue.. The instructions do not mention any drivers whatsoever. Windows 11 Pro does not recognize the device, can't find the drivers for the device, and the drivers on their website do not install. I am having to contact the seller in hopes they know what in the world I'm supposed to do to get this to work. At this point, I'm considering returning and running with another brand. I am not even remotely impressed by this technology. I will give them a couple of days to respond, which is a huge inconvenience for me as I already had to wait almost a week for this to come in.If you don't mind a genuine headache, by all means, buy this product. But at the time of this review, the device is NOT working.UPDATE: I decided to try to plug something in, just to see if it would happen to actually see it or if it was in fact not seen by Windows... The ports are so unaligned, it falls underneath the PC case port slot. So I can't even plug in anything to use it. This is definitely by far the worst piece of tech I have every purchased.. DO NOT BUY, IT'S NOT WORTH IT.

I was skeptical as if it will work on my Mac Pro 5,1 2010 and yes it works pretty well ! The transfer speed is great and the USB-C ports delivers. One thing that you should be aware is the last port is very close to the end of the PCI slot and not all cables will fit in there, It should be a cable with very thin wall. Very satisfied with the card.

Attention à votre tour car les ports en vertical ne passe pas dans une partie des fentes PCI des tours.Il faudra accepter de couper un bout de la carcasse ou ce rabattre sur une carte à connecteur USB dans l'autre sens avec moins de port.

I've bought three of these cards over the years for different computers and they worked great. But this last one was junk. First think I noticed was the faceplate was no longer connected to the card. They make you assemble it by screwing it together. I assumed they were trying to save money but then discovered the faceplate wouldn't line up right with the card so you couldn't connect any USB plug because the face plate was slightly in the way. The design is defective. I tried different things and finally put in a USB connector before installing and tightening down. That got that one device in but when the card was installed that way it still couldn't read the drive. I wasted an hour trying to get the USB connection to fit and when i found a way the card itself didn't work. It was a total waste of time. Also when the card was tightened to the faceplate with the USB device connected, it wouldn't pull out again proving it was a defective design and a defective card. Don't buy it, it is rubbish.
