About six years ago I installed an InSinkErator Badger 5 in my kitchen. It worked OK for the first few years but started failing in year three. The problem was that it wouldn't grind certain items enough and they'd clog the trap. Pasta, rice, and any stringy vegetable like celery never gut pulverized enough and potato skins were hit and miss. We finally just stopped using it.I wound up purchasing the Evolution Excel for a few reasons:1. at 1 HP it's twice as powerful as the Badger 5.2. it has three grind stages - the Badger 5 has one.3. it's designed to work through jams by raising the torque and/or reversing - be ready to grab that Allen wrench with the Badger 5.4. much more use of stainless steel in the chamber and cutting components - the inside of my Badger 5 had significant rust.5. although not a deal breaker, the Evolution Excel is designed to be much quieter. But, all of that came with a price. The Excel is about 250 dollars more than the Badger. But, what good is saving money if the disposal doesn't work properly? Is the Excel worth four times the Badger? That's a subjective question but for me the answer is yes.Installation went without a hitch. Since I already had an InSinkErator I used the existing collar. I moved the cable connector and the electric cord from the old disposal to the Elite. I punched out the dishwasher plug and moved on to mounting it under the sink. This is where you may run into a problem. The Elite is heavy - 25 pounds heavy. While it doesn't sound like a big deal to lift 25 pounds remember you're going to be lifting 25 pounds under your sink and when you get it positioned you're going to need a free hand to turn the mounting ring. I considered a number of solutions including using a car jack and stacking a bunch of books under it and then lifting it the last few inches with a crowbar. But, my wife was available and I was installing this under a double sink under a 48 inch cabinet. I was able to lift it while she turned the mounting ring. The side of the sink I have this mounted under doesn't drop straight down to the trap; the other side of the sink goes to the trap. The disposal discharges to a T on the other side. Surprisingly the Elite's discharge is about the same distance down from the sink as the Badger 5. I trimmed down the included straight discharge tube and hooked everything up exactly the same as before. After connecting the dishwasher drain, checking for drain leaks, and plugging it in, it was time to give it a try.Rather than go easy I loaded it up with ice cubes, turned on the water and flipped the switch. Gone in a matter of seconds and much, much quieter than the old Badger 5. You can actually talk to someone while the Elite is grinding ice cubes.Overall, I think the Elite is a terrific garbage disposal. It's well made, quiet, and does an excellent job doing what it's supposed to do. I expect to get many years of service from it.

I am absolutely thrilled with the InSinkErator Garbage Disposal, Evolution Excel, and Quiet Series! This product has exceeded all my expectations in terms of both noise level and installation process.First and foremost, the noise level is practically non-existent. I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet this disposal unit operates. It's a complete game-changer for our household, as we no longer have to endure the loud grinding noises often accompanying traditional garbage disposals. Now, we can comfortably hold conversations in the kitchen without any disturbance. The installation process was an absolute breeze. Even though I'm considered very handy, by most of my friends, I was pleasently surprised about how clear the instructions where and how quickly the unit was putup and running. The stainless steel construction feels sturdy and durable, giving me confidence that it's built to last. The 1.0 HP continuous feed power is impressive. It effortlessly handles all types of food waste without hiccups, making meal clean-up quick and efficient. I appreciate how well-designed and efficient this garbage disposal is, making my wife daily kitchen routine so much smoother. In summary, the InSinkErator Evolution Excel has transformed our kitchen experience. Its remarkably quiet operation, combined with its straightforward installation, makes it a standout product. If you're looking for a garbage disposal that delivers on both performance and convenience, look no further. This is hands down a 5-star product that I highly recommend to anyone seeking top-notch quality and ease of use.Kudos to InSinkErator for creating such a remarkable appliance that truly enhances daily living.Sincerely, Jose

This Insinkerator is an absolute monster. Forget the boogeyman or ghosts . . . the Evolution Excel lurks, hiding in the dark under your kitchen cabinets. Flip a switch, and it silently and quickly gobbles up everything in its path!Install was a breeze - I chose to replace the old flange from the previous model and my drain trap. Mine is hard wired . . . still, with all of that, it took less than an hour start to finish. I switched to a lighted switch because it's so quiet that it can be hard to tell when the thing is running! This is a high end model. Yes, it costs more than a cheap and loud one. But it performs better, is quieter, and *should* last longer than cheaper models. I find it to be worth the extra cash now to enjoy using this headache-free for the next decade. We're glad we upgraded when our old Badger went out on us.To address some concerns/complaints that I read before I made the great decision to buy this thing . . . it is large, but not THAT much larger than my old badger 3/4HP. It fit comfortably under my large sink, even with a 4 gallon water heater and reverse osmosis system packed in there. If you're having trouble fitting it, move cleaners and stuff out of the way. Under the sink is a lousy spot to cram things into, anyway. Also, about the soundproofing baffle that pools water in the drain. Not sure where you all grew up, maybe the Sahara or Death Valley or something . . . but it pools maybe 1" of water above the rubber baffle. Where I come from, that ain't much. And that actually does make the thing noticeably quieter - I give the engineers a thumbs up for that design. Photo shown.Regarding septic systems - just be smart. Don't put crazy stuff like beef bones and eggshells down the thing, and your septic tank will easily biodegrade the tiny bits of food that are left. We've been using and older model for 4 years and just had our system inspected . . . no issues at all.

Purchased this in 2012 during a kitchen reno. We had never owned one so I did much research on these things and this one kept popping up so I pulled the trigger on it.We have had no issues with it at all and the unit is used daily. It is quiet and powerful and I have not jammed it up yet. I have heard of complaints on odour.... now I'm not sure if that is for this unit, other units or these things in general but we have not had any issue with odour and I have cleaned it maybe 4 times since 2012 and not because of odour.Overall, very pleased with this model of the InSinkErator. I would highly recommend this particular unit.Update, June 2022. Wow, 10 years since we installed this thing and I have not touched it once. Zero issues or problems. I’ve done the ice or baking soda/vinegar thing to clean it maybe 3 times. It doesn’t seem to really ever need it. Anyway, 10 years and still going strong. I’d say that sells it on its own.

Why o why are you selling this product in the uk. Iv spent two hours trying to work out why I’m blowing fuses. The instructions give no power output requirements. Very poor. Hope I’ll be getting a full refund!!

Ocupa mucho espacio bajo el lavabo, pero es silencioso y rápido. Vibra cuando tiene algo grueso que triturar.
