The IRWIN 3043009- 3/4" x 17" WeldTec Ship Auger is made stronger and last longer because a harder cutting edge is welded to the base material. The result is 2x longer nail cutting life versus traditional Irwin Speedbor Ship Auger Bits. The superior performance and durability of WeldTec is only available from Irwin.

Performs well and seems to remain sharp quite well

giving this auger heavy use, have to periodically sharpen it. I feel I got my money's worth. Recommend

I needed to replace a fence post that had broken off at ground level. Instead of digging out the old concrete footing, dispose of it, and then create a new footing with the new post, I decided to try reusing the old footing since it was still in great shape. The challenge of course, is removing the old post from it.I got one of these bits to bore out closely spaced holes in the old post, and then used a pry bar and large chisels to break off and remove the wood between them. It took about an hour going down a few inches at a time, but it worked out to be easier and faster vs. digging out the footing. As a nice side benefit, it also avoiding the environmental impact of disposing of the old footing and making 3-4 bags of concrete mix. This bit worked like a charm and it was steadily self-feeding once it reached solid wood, but the cutting edge was notably dulled by the end of the job. I would estimate that I drilled through the equivalent of 8-10 feet of pressure treated lumber (parallel to the grain). I will likely try to sharpen the edge with a Dremel tool to see if I can get additional life out of the bit.Overall, this bit worked well for my purposes, and the relatively short life of the cutting edge not a deal breaker given the price (especially if I can sharpen it and do a few more fence posts with it).

I'm using this drill bit with a tough hammer drill to burrow holes into freshly cut tree stumps. It would great depending on the type of wood. For example it had no problem drilling into maple tree stumps, but with a spruce stump was more difficult to drill. It's not the drill bit, spruce wood is tough. I do recommend this drill bit for overall good value.

I installed approximately (70) 5/8†timber bolts in marine grade dock pilings that were anywhere from 8†to 12†in diameter. This bit is the real deal, make sure to buy the short 6†bit too for your impact so you can start with one to get a good pilot home hole then drive it home with the 17†bit.

I wish I had bought this before starting to drill holes with spade bits (now ruined) to remove stumps (one is oak). This drill bit digs holes deeper and survives to drill many more. Doesn't seem to be that sharp. Instead, it relies on screw at tip to dig in, and a groove coiled along length to remove wood shavings (less friction). I just reversed drilling about every 2-3 inches to help remove debris before continuing deeper. The edge at the tip can be easily resharpened with a file (since it doesn't need to be a knife's edge).

I bought this for drilling joists and studs to route electrical wire.On receiving I used it for drilling joists in a crawlspace. I was able to drill 45 holes in 15-20 minutes. I'm very happy with it. It's a huge improvement over my old dull auger. As described, the bit starts easily and pulls itself through. Like any good auger bit, you need a drill with easy reverse, as augers pulls itself through the wood. Don't be surprised if you feel pulled into the wood. By definition it is what augers do.Perfer tool meets and exceeds expectations.

Es exactamente como la descrpción. Usaba para perforar polines por un muro de retención sin problemas.

It does the job pretty well. I am not a specialist. I used it to drill a whole through the wall for some internet cables. It's quite a long bit so it was perfect for my project.

Great bit. From my experience as an electrician, these Irwin bits have a particularly good pro to them over most other auger bits. After a fair bit of usage, most bits begin to dull off in the way that they will still drill through studs alright but have to take a lot of force to get the bit to bite through the last little bit of wood its drilling through. The Irwins seem to chop through that last chunk far into their lifetime, which is so nice. Milwaukees and other brands dull out in that way a lot sooner.
