This is a wonderfully built lathe. The ways are silky smooth, the banjo glides to the right position, the quill has a deep drop and it's powerful. I like everything about this lathe except the speed control. It uses a variable size pulley controlled by a knob on the side of the headstock. That knob is hard to turn and takes a lot of turning to adjust to the right speed. This lathe with electronic control would be the best on the market. As is, I had to return it and get a Powermatic for more money. A shame really.

The speed dial is much more handy than my old one having to manually move the belt up or down the pulleys.

The pin that holds the headstock in place appears to have sheared so it is at a dealer getting fixed. I caused the problem by not being able to get my blanks round enough so the lathe jumped around too much. In spite of the problem I would buy it again but just be more careful with it. I have had the lathe less than 3 years so maybe the warranty will pay for repairs but I am not real optimistic. This lathe got some rough use.

When the lathe was delivered, I removed the headstock to make the assembly a little lighter before hoisting it to the bench top. After reinstalling the headstock, the headstock and tailstock were misaligned by over 1/4 of an inch. I contacted customer service and after 2 months of back and forth with customer service rep Curtis, I was given instructions on how to fix the problem. I was not able to disassemble the headstock as instructed, so was referred to an authorized repair service. The technician was finally able to dissemble the headstock and found burrs that he felt were left from the manufacturing process which should have been covered under warranty. He phoned the Jet company and talked to the customer service rep Curtis. Curtis declined to cover the service call under warrenty stating that the problem had been caused by the customer in spite of the opinion of their authorized service technician. It took the technician and his assistant over an hour to fix the problem. Total cost to me, $400.00.
