as others have said, the backing can tear, occasionally many times in a row. seems to be a QC issue. REVISED: if you pull the backing slow and straight it seems to help. also if the wrong side of the backing touches the adhesive, it is very difficult to remove. REVISED: this tape is amazingly sturdy to walk on once applied.

Now before you read this make sure you understand the application of this tape. This is intended to have a “sandwich†fasten between a joist and deck board. THIS IS NOT FLASHING TAPE! No that is out of the way this is high quality tape for the price point! I have used this for 3 decks and so far it has been a very good product for me. This will stick to any and everything as long as it is dry and clean. It will do just fine with pressure treated boards but I highly recommend using a roller. This will make sure you get the maximum adhesion. Once you pull the backing off the tape be careful that it doesn’t touch itself, you will not get it apart! Great easy product that will substantially increase the life of your joist!

Pros:1. Sticks really well to the top of the joist.2. It is slightly wider than the joist, so it's easy to apply.3. It's nearly impossible to remove once applied. This means to me that it is very durable and stays put.Cons:1. Sometimes the backing doesn't come off in a single piece. It is possible to peel off any remaining backing, but that invariably results in thick adhesive goo sticking. under the nails, which is a pain to get off. I found that I have the best results by peeling off a small part and sticking it to the joist, then holding down the tape firmly onto the joist and laying down the rest of the tape as flat as possible, peeling off the film. That way, you can see the tape coming off from the sides and you can see when it goes wrong right away.2. Folding the sides of the tape over the edges of the joists, the tape doesn't stick well to the sides. this is a mystery to me, because it sticks very well to the top. But often, no matter how hard I press down, the tape doesn't stick to the sides.

Applies easily. Very substantial. Great price here. Not super-sticky when you first lay it down, but come back 10 minutes later and it holds on like mad. Make sure your joists are dry. When removing the backing, pull straight along the length of the tape, not off to one side or you'll tear the thin backing and get frustrated....Also, keep the rolls wrapped in their cellophane until you really need them. If you unwrap and set the roll down on anything the glue on the edge of the tape roll will stick and you'll have a devil of a time getting it up again.

Once this joist tape is installed and covered by decking, it will be perfectly fine, but there are two reasons that I will not buy this product again. The first reason is on the front of the tape. The surface of the tape is smooth, which probably helps it to shed water better, but the surface of the Trex tape, which I used on my last deck job, is rough, which makes it much more comfortable when you're walking the joists before the decking goes on. The second and more important reason is on the back of the tape. The release tape that you peel off to reveal the sticky back of the joist tape is a very thin, flimsy plastic film. Now, I can understand why the manufacturer would want to use the cheapest shh...tuff for this backing tape. It is, after all, the part of the product that you peel off and throw away. But here's the thing: you have to be able to peel it off in the first place. This backing tape is so flimsy that it shreds as you're peeling it off, and then you have to spend time picking away at it with a utility knife or whatever. I was on my fourth roll of joist tape today before I was able to peel the backing off the tape for an entire 12' joist without it tearing apart. More often, I couldn't get two feet of backing off without having to get my knife out. Apart from this being super frustrating, the amount of my time that I wasted fussing with the backing is going to cost my client way more than a marginally more expensive product with a better backing tape.

This tape is easy to apply and you can do it without gloves. The sticky side does not stick to your fingers much, but when applied to wood it appears to stay out.Applied in AZ full Sun. When taping you will need to press and force the adhesive into the wood with pressure from hands or rollers.Appears to stay out even when shaped around the edges. This tape is larger than the wood, which is what you want a slight wrap over the edge to run the water off.Tip: precut your strips, especially if you’re working on a high deck. The tape is forgiving if you need to readjust, but do this before pressing into wood.

I used a lot of this to cover the joists under our new top deck boards. I bought a roller as I thought this would be difficult to keep stuck - no such problem. Stuck like glue, to both new and old wood.

Does exactly what it says, don't make the mistake of trying to remove it once it's properly stuck down cause you won't be able to!

I like this tape except, the clear part will rip and become a pain if your not pulling it back absolutely straight
