It's seems to be a decent product aside from the alligator clips which have a hole in the neck of them because they are for electrical applications not for performing the work required of them in this product. Change the clips to solid neck clips and it'll be ok otherwise expect breakage with little effort.

It's a good little stand for circuit boards. The magnifying glass didn't work for me, so I took it off and just wear reading glasses if I need to see up close. I do wish the arms rotated better so I could solder without removing the board and flipping it over. But, it's a minor inconvenience

Bought this for my adult son, who does fine detail painting on miniatures and models. The clips are sturdy and hold pieces in place, freeing his hands. They also stay upright even with heavier pieces, so the item can stay put while it dries. The magnifier is very useful to help see the tiny details he is painting. Whether he's doing 4 small parts or using all the clips for a larger piece, he's found it works well, is sturdy, and is just the right size.

Where was this product in 1965 - 1968 when I was repairing Aviation Radios for USMC? It would have made my job much easier. Today if you are making joints in wires or working on small circuit boards you know how difficult it can be to do a three hand job with only two hands.My first impressions of this Soldering Repair Platform is the feeling of solid strength. There have been many products introduced similar to this one. But they all have weaknesses. First the alligator clips are the cheapest things you can imagine. Their jaws do not align and the cheap tin used to make them does not long survive much use. The Arms are not typically flexible. There is a lot of silly fiddling required to get the joints to tighten and allow for the arms to support the work. The base for cheaper units is usually a flimsy affair of either plastic or cheap metal. All this is combined into one totally useless package of "Stuff".This is the first review I have started by comparing the competition's shoddy products and then going on to give a good review to the one being reviewed. New ground for me. So here goes.The baseplate is very solid. Nothing cheap about it. It is heavy and has a non-slip surface. The four vertical arms are flexible. They can be adjusted to about any angle or position you want with no fussing.The alligator clips are substantial and they have a heavy plastic coating that should go a long way towards protecting your work. There is a small magnifier (approx. 2" dia. It does provide the enlargement you need to do fussy work. One of the most difficult repairs is the interlacing of individual wire strands between two pieces of wire. This unit makes it easy. The soldering is simple and only two hands are needed. This is an important repair to learn to make well. It keeps the outside diameter of the repair very close to the original wire size.When working on a circuit board and searching for open circuits it is extremely important to insure that the C. Board is secured and does not move. It is important to have a good magnifier to be able to inspect the solder runs for cracks. Once located, it is simple to resolder the crack without needing to use more solder.You may be satisfied with the magnifier that comes with this kit. I am for most work. BUT, I got a lighted handheld magnifier that provides 2x, 10x and 100x magnification. For extremely fine work, I obtained an electronic handheld microscope that does the job if the one above can't perform.All-in-all this is a very good way to handle repairs in fussy and cramped environs.Good Product.

I do a small amount of soldering to repair items around the house. In the past, I've struggled to hold the parts, solder, and soldering iron consistently to get good solder joints. This station solves that problem. The parts can be held rather securely freeing up my hands to manipulate the solder and iron. The arms on the clamps are easy to position but are firm enough to prevent wobble while soldering. This has helped me produce more consistent solder joints that look almost as good as a professional.
