Double thick bottom wires will resist corrosion, I suspect forever. Replaces cast iron plate with holes which can clog with charcoal. Captures all the lump charcoal in one easy to shake out ash basket. It does weigh a lot [which means heavy duty wire].

After purchasing this, I see why people recommend it so much. Has helped improve my KJ grilling by helping me with charcoal placement and lighting.Well built, no issues well into double digit cooks on my grill. Helps with lighting and arranging my fuel. Have some issues with the little chunks of lump leftover but not a deal breaker. Easy to get the ash out after cooks.I like the separator for it that allows me to better arrange the coalFor two zone cooks.Would recommend for KJ grill (i have a classic II)

Even though somewhat costly, it'll save on charcoal dollars easily by the reuse of what's left after shaking the ash away.

This thing is so well built. Spot welds of the substantial gauge stainless steel wire are well done. Does its job and does it well. The removable divider is a nice touch made from the same gauge stainless steel. Built to work with the divide and conquer system of the kamado joe classic I and II. Heat deflectors work eith the basket hangers. Very pleased with this purchase.

I have a KJ Classic 2 (I'll write a review, last one Amazon failed to accept it and I lost the page. That'll teach me to do a long and detailed review...)Anyway, the Classic 3 comes with this basket. the Classic 2 doesn't and has a cast-iron circular grate at the bottom of the firebox.This is superior, and one of the first upgrades to do especially if you do low and slow cooking as you get more air, and ashes fall down more easily.This is built like a tank, super heavy, and impressive. And this rapidly looks really old, as the temp of the fire gets a lot of the shine away...Pros: improved airflow, easier to shake, easy to move all coals (lift the basket) to make some space to go clean up the ashes.Cons: expensive, and any small bit of charcoal (yes, even quality lump charcoal has some small chunks, plus the big blocks you burn become small as they are consumed) fall through. So this might waste a bit of charcoal.

You to get this! lift charcoal basket out & spread the ashes out on the bottom. Then take your ash tray out. You’ll get better breathing from the bottom up. It works.Excellent quality

Took a star off for the price. Like everything Kamado Joe it has to be expensive. It works really well and i like the divider if you want to cook one just one side of the grill this will help a lot. If you are using the JoeTisserie and want to isolate your heat to the back this will definitely do the trick. It seems very sturdy as well. I had debated between this and the Ki** a** basket and chose this because of the divider. No regrets. I did remove the built in bottom piece on the classic Joe 2 as others have said. I see no need for it with the basket.

I was having trouble with the kamado Joe stock cast iron charcole grate not letting enough air into the fire chamber.The kamado Joe coal basket makes a big difference in fire breathability and clean up. I'm now getting good, clean burns on my charcoal and nice blue smoke.Fit is a little tall, but I always put my heat deflectors on the second level anyway, so not an issue for me.As the other reviews have noted, this basket is very well built & heavy duty.

I was on the fence on buying this and finally decided to pull the trigger due to couple of reasons. I am happy I did so.Main advantages:- Better airflow across charcoal over a long cook when the firebox is full and maintaining 225 - 250F as it provides a more consistent burn over a long time. This is not so much important for shorter cooks with less charcoal load or high temp cooks.I find the standard grate could get obstructed with certain type of lump charcoal which produce lot of ash and can eventually the put out the fire or make fluctuations of temp at the low and slow temps like 250F over a long cook time ( 10 - 15 hours ). This is mostly due to the embers are covered by ash and get inconsistent oxygen supply. This stainless steel basket eliminate that issue as most of the ash during a cook get dropped down through the spaces.- Easy cleaning in between cooks.- Excellent build quality which reflects the rest of KamadoJoe brand accessories. Fits well with the grill setup.Final thoughts:I believe the improved airflow across charcoal load is is the main reason one should consider to buy instead of the ease of use which is good but is not a major problem for a kamado user.One could achieve similar results with the original cast iron grate by using a charcoal type which produce little to no ash like Red Gum. But I do like the flexibility of choosing any type hence find this accessory very valuable over the long run.For high temp cooks I still sometimes use the cast iron grate as I mostly finish the charcoal load in one go in such a cook or use lesser load.Overall highly recommended. And is a great investment if bought at the right price. (
