This lock works great for my Surface Studio and MacBook Pro. Neither have a port for a security lock. The unit is adjustable in width and is straight forward to setup the locking base. The problem was setting up the locking foot for the security pin. The pictures were not clear that you had to extend the locking foot quite a ways to get it in the security slot. Then you have to tighten the locking foot up to keep it in place. Great idea, just not clear on how far you have to extend the locking foot. Once I got that setup it works great. Because my computers are different widths, I elected to order a second one so each computer has a security lock already setup to the correct width. When I travel, I often take both computers, so having two security locks makes sense.Because of the way the power cable for the Surface Studio lays, I had to open the locking mechanism one extra slot so the power cable would not be pinched.

This laptop lock is incredibly sturdy and heavy. It was easy to install and change the lock combo. Great value for the money. Very nice!

Seems relatively robust as computer locks go. It is still a cable lock and like any cable lock, could be clipped with limited difficulty. Is relatively heavy. The cables quite long which is good. Biggest drawback is that you cannot close the computer with it on, rather, it will be open to about a 45 degree angle or more. Probably the best option available for a Mac until Apple gets its act together and adds a port for a lock.

Definitely going back. Instruction manual is different from what is shipped. Does not attach to the docking platform with locking key or rotating. Sent the wrong nut opening key(way smaller than required). Not worth.

I have been wanting to lock my MacBook for a long time but couldn't because it does not have a Kensington slot until I found this product. The built quality is really good and it gets it job done. The only thing I do not like is the combination lock came with it. To use the included combination lock, you will have to installed/screw a small provided hardware onto the Kensington slot. After that, you can use the combination lock to lock onto that hardware. If you want to use a different locking cable, say a keyed lock, you will have to remove that hardware to expose the Kensington slot.

Directions a bit confusing but I figured it out. Can’t close screen when locked🙠but I knew that when I bought it. Deters theft. Expensive but not many options for Mac users. Bulky for transporting to library but really only weighs 3 pounds. I can see my college kid using in dorm room to secure laptop but will see if she goes for hassle of using it at library. Might be easier to throw laptop in book bag and take it with her to bathroom if needed.

Had the lock not malfunctioned, this would have been a very good solution given the limited options for the 2018 MacBook Pro (no security slot on chassis). The only concern is, like others have suggested, there's the very real risk of closing the lid while the lock is engaged. In short, the combo lock jammed preventing my daughter from taking it to class while at college. With some effort and struggle, Kensington agreed to replace the combo lock with a keyed lock. For the long version of the story, read on...Purchased for my daughter for her first year in college. Received a phone call indicating lock would not open. After unsuccessfully troubleshooting with her over the phone, I tried to call Kensington, but somehow ended up with Amazon support. Amazon support was excellent, despite not being able to resolve the issue.During the call with the Amazon support representative, he was able to contact Kensington. First thing Kensington suggested was that my daughter changed the passcode and she had forgotten it. I can appreciate that being a possible scenario, but to start the conversation by accusing the customer of being at fault is not good customer service; especially given the outcome.Given the urgency, I was willing to drive down 90 miles with my tools and cut the lock off, but my daughter was able to bring the laptop home the following weekend (she was able to have someone release the other end of the cable by disassembling the desk). The first thing I observed was that the release button sunk in further with the correct combo compared to the incorrect combo - indicating there was a mechanical problem inside the lock. I took a channel lock (big pliers) and was able to apply more pressure to the button which released the lock. To confirm it was a mechanical problem, I re-engaged the lock and tried it again with the wrong combo. It would not release.I called Kensington and explained the problem. Despite the details I provided, the support rep, again, tried to tell me we had the wrong combo. To add insult, she instructed me to blow compressed air into the lock. Frustrated, I promptly explained to her I was not interested in trying to fix the lock and have this happen again. With some persuasion, I convinced her to warranty the combo lock with a keyed lock.I appreciate the final resolution, but don't appreciate Kensington's initial accusatory "it must be the customer's fault" stance in customer support.I'm hoping/assuming the keyed lock will be more reliable as it's a simpler mechanism.

This is a convenient product that will protect your laptop from being stolen. We use it at the front desk of our building. We chose not to secure the unit to the desk and are relying on the lock and cable.

Funciona muy bien, lo uso en oficina y me ha funcionado muy bien con una MacBook ProNo hay que pegar o agregar nada a la laptop lo que lo hace muy conveniente. Muy recomendado.

When purchasing my new laptop for post-secondary classes, I noticed many laptops no longer come with the Kensington Lock and I wanted to ensure I could protect my laptop against theft. I looked at various different lock based security products and then came across the Kensington Laptop Locking Station 2.0 . I found it great to be able to add this behind most laptops upto 15.6 inches(most 16 inch models). Though I noticed upon setup, that it was a bit difficult to get started with changing the screws and resetting the lock to ensure it would work. Though once setup, it works great to protect my laptop against theft.
