About this item

  • For use with 3/8" to 3/4" inlet float valves and 1/4"-20 threaded rods (sold separately)
  • Polyethylene for chemical resistance
  • 1/4"-20 female threads for mounting
  • Molded in one piece to resist leakage

This Kerick PF224-NT rectangular float ball is 2" wide, 2" high, and 4" long. It is made of polyethylene for resistance to corrosion and to deterioration from sunlight, is molded in one piece to resist leakage, and has 1/4"-20 female threads. It is intended for use with 3/8" to 3/4" inlet float valves and 1/4"-20 threaded rods (sold separately). As part of a float valve installation, it is suitable for use in a variety of applications, such as fountains, livestock water tanks, and chemical manufacturing plants.

Float valves use a rod and float ball attached to a valve shutoff lever to control flow in or out of a tank. The float ball rises or falls with the level of liquid in the tank, changing the angle of the valve shutoff lever. When the angle of the valve lever changes sufficiently, the valve opens or closes. Float valves are rated according to the volume of liquid that can flow through them at a particular pressure to ensure the tank can be refilled as quickly as it is emptied. The material that a float valve is constructed from must be suitable for the liquid in which it operates, which may be corrosive or at an extreme temperature. Float valves are used to automatically regulate the level of liquid within tanks in a variety of applications, such as fountains, livestock water tanks, cooling towers, and chemical manufacturing plants.

Kerick Valve manufactures fluid level control valves for industrial applications. The company, founded in 1994, is headquartered in Jacksonville, FL.

The specs specifically state '1/4" Female Thread'. No, it does not come threaded. But it's not hard to hand thread the rod in, so not a big issue. I've even heard of some ballcocks with metric threads, though I haven't seen any. So maybe it's just as well that it doesn't come threaded. In any case, not a real issue at least to me.But being a more compact shape than usual balls makes it good, for certain applications. For example, by not being round, you can adjust toilet level a little bit higher than you could with a round ball. The only real negative is that it's more expensive than your average float. And one user said he got a defective one with a hole in it. But mine was good. For best results, pair with Cesco Brass Burlington or Scovill ballcocks. Definitely old-school but has advantages over modern systems.

Float has a sturdy feel, and would have been great for my project if 1) It hadn't had a pinhole opening at the injection point on top, 2) It had actually been threaded, 3) It had actually been square, it was 54 by 51 mm.

I bought this to replace the conventional heavy style float that is on most models of float valve. I would highly recommend as it offers a more solid stop to the valve.

The stem of the float has no threads. So you have to make threads by forcing the threaded section of a steel rod into the stem. Be careful how far you thread the rod into the stem as it will deform the stem.

Works well for float switch. Threaded connector fit well with extension rod for float switch.
