Step one: Read directions thoroughly. Installation and wifi activation was a no trainer. Installed both in less than 30 minutes. Both registered on the app and talk to each other. I'm not getting an indication of AC power on one of the units, but I think the original wiring harness that operated the old units has gone bad. I'm going to replace the old harness with the extra ones included in the package. (EDIT- TURNS OUT I WAS GETTING AC CONNECTION. I SIMPLY DIDNT UNDERSTAND HOW THE LED'S INDICATE SUCH BETWEEN THE DAY AND NIGHT SETTINGS THE LEDS USE. SO, NO PROBLEMS THERE.). I will come back in a few weeks with and update regarding all these false alarms people are complaining about and let you know if I am having same issues. Keep in mind this is a piece of electrical equipment that needs to remain clean of dust. I work in HVAC and you would not believe how many people in the general public don't change their filters every 30 days and then wonder why their unit isn't working. All equipment needs maintenance. You wouldn't buy a car and never change the oil and still expect the car to work forever. Now I can't speak for all the reviewers and the problems they are encountering, but I have a feeling that following the directions might produce better results. We'll see. As I said, I'll be back to update this twice (once after rewire, and again after a month or so to discuss false alarms.

I don’t usually take the time to leave bad reviews, but felt like I should for such an important piece of life safety at home to help others avoid the trouble I have encountered with these smart alarms. Since installing these in February, we have had at least 10 false alarms, each originating from a different detector. Contacting Kidde support resulted in being told to clean the detectors with compressed air. Even after cleaning all of them, we continue to get false alarms, sometimes in the middle of the night! When I asked Kidde about replacing them under warranty, they only offered to replace 2 out of 8 since those were the only ones that showed a recent smoke alarm event. I had already purchased an additional unit to replace one other unit that I had identified as going bad, and they won’t replace that one since I permanently disabled the old one. I’m not sure if I just got a bad lot of these since they were all purchased at the same time, but I would steer clear of these if you’re in the market for smart smoke/carbon monoxide combo alarms. The only good feature is that they are WiFi and have an app that tells you which alarm is going off. Then you’ll know which one needs to be replaced at 3am!!!

No false alarms yet and no difficulty connecting to wifi as some others have mentioned. I will note that we do have a dedicated wifi SSID for IoT devices that operates on 2.4Ghz only and has the ability to lock a client-device to a specific access point. I have seen other devices (looking at you Keurig) struggle with mesh wifi systems that lack these capabilities. The detectors did arrive 22 months after their manufacture date. I was concerned due to the manufacturer-stated 10-year lifespan of the devices. I called Kidde support and was informed that they do allow a buffer period of two years for the detectors to sit on a shelf or in a warehouse. Since there is a switch that isn't turned on until the detector is installed, the lithium battery is not connected during this time. The smartphone app indicates a remaining lifespan of 535 weeks immediately after installation. Kidde also informed me that warranty claim eligibility is based on purchase date, not manufacture date.

This review is for: Kidde Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector, WiFi,Reasonably happy with this purchase. Downloaded the app, scanned the QR code for the detector, turned off power, turned the knob on back to engage battery backup, connected wiring harness, turned on power, allowed app to connect (had to do this twice), it needed to download new firmware. Pinged the detector from app to confirm connection.Since I had a Kidde CO detector installed before I did not have to replace the wiring harness.Afterwards works fine. You can ping the detector with the app. This morning it complained it lost connection. The app said it needed new firmware. After it was installed, all is good.Pros:Installed okay as long as you followed the instructions, downloaded the app, and upgraded firmware.Cons:This only has the photo detector for the fire alarm. It does not have the ionization detector. Both are usually recommended for fires. If you lose connection, you may have to push the big button and follow instructions in app to reconnect.Overall, reasonably happy with purchase and would recommend to others who read instructions first.

Recently purchased these as a replacement for my old smoke detectors same brand that needed replacement. I chose these as the smart features seemed good enough and for a little more cost would provide better safety precautions. These alarms come with an app that allows you to receive notifications immediately as soon as the alarms go off, regardless of where you're at that is a plus for me and must have. Meaning it provides you an extra sense of security knowing you have access to knowing whether your house is having a possible fire or similar. These also fit my old smoke detectors original bracket but I had to make a little more space for the bulkier back of the alarm.Pros:- Smart Features/App (Able to receive a notification as soon as the alarm goes off and call emergency services)- Easy set up- Very loud compared to my old smoke alarms- Light that shows easy access to know if they’re monitoring or not. (Green ring light shown in picture)- Works with Alexa and google.Cons:- None, these are a great investment to peace of mind wherever you go.
