Not sure why they were 4 years old. Don’t they sell enough to deplete stock a little better? 25% of batteries were dead, so can you trust the other 75%? May as well get new batteries too and you know how expensive 9V’s are. 4 years of shelf life gone, so I guess 6 years is left. These factors diminish the value of the purchase. On the other hand, I bought a brand new one from Walmart less than a year ago, and it malfunctioned. New battery would not stop it from constantly going off. So I decided to get bulk order from Amazon to replace every one of them in the house and now I have 4 year old detectors with dying/dead batteries and only 6 years of shelf life left. One problem begets another. Awesome…

We are hoping they will not sound alarm when no fire or smoke is even an issue. We have spent over $150 on others with 10 yr battery inside it to go off whereby we had to destroy them with a sledgehammer because they would not stop! Hoping these will be better with the battery you can take out and replace to stop it screaming!

Your standard life-saving device that is a requirement and common sense installation for any household. I replaced the batteries with Duracell Optimum's, but a battery is included.

Easy install. Great price on 2!! Used these as replacements for very old smoke detectors that use an old, outdated method of detection.

Works well and very loud! Also extremely sensitive to smoke. The alarm is not in my kitchen but goes off at the slightest smoke from cooking. Bacon is a big culprit. But... I feel good knowing that it will detect easily.
