One of my favorite things about flying kites is seeing how high I can get them up. The higher, the better! The problem is, with this, is that all that line you let out, well, at some point, you're going to have to bring that back in. And if it's a day that you can let out a lot of line, then it's not going to be easy to get all that line back in. That's where this reel comes into play! With ball bearings, and a locking mechanism, you can let the line fly off the reel (I always recommend wearing gloves when flying. Not worth slicing your fingers.) without having to do anything but hold the reel. And, when you're ready to bring it back in, it's very reminiscent of using a fishing reel. Speaking of which, I like to spool my reel with the cheapest braided fishing line, which means I can usually get way more line on the reel, and the line is much stronger, and much lighter than normal kite string. Definitely wear gloves though if you plan on doing this, as it will slice through your hands like a wire cheese cutter. Can't wait to get to get my kites half a mile up in the sky!

My wife and I are mostly beginners at flying kites (do it a couple times a year, mostly fly kites that are fairly easy to launch).We didn't even manage to get outside with this reel. We opened it to look at it and the string immediately started falling off and tangling. It was such a mess to try to reel back up. I'm planning to return it and find something that keeps my string organized.I guess in theory this could prevent rope burns if you figured out how to keep the string where it's supposed to be.

Nun bekommt man hier wesentlich mehr Drachenschnur, als in Deutschland überhaupt erlaubt! Aus Flugsicherheitsgründen darf bei uns eine Drachenschnur 100m haben. Für mehr braucht es eine Sondergenehmigung.Und hier bekommt man 180 Meter, vielleicht sogar mehr, weil im englischen Text steht 700 Fuß, das wären dann 213 Meter sogar.Technisch hat diese auf einer kugelgelagerten Spule 3fach verdrillte Kunstfaserleine einiges zu bieten. Es ist kein Spielzeug für kleinere Hände, sondern schon für Jugendliche oder Erwachsene aufgrund der Größe einer Hand, die das Gerät greifen soll.„Die Anti-Reverse-Sicherheitsverriegelung verhindert Ermüdung der Arme und bietet zusätzlichen Komfort während der Nutzung.“ Gut so – Drachen fliegen lassen kann auch ganz toll langweilig sein, wenn man KEINEN Lenkdrachen steigen lässt.Das Werbevideo auf Amazon zeigt die Bedienung mit dem Knauf.Drachenschnüre - wenn irgend möglich – nie in der Natur zurücklassen – große Verletzungsgefahr für allerlei Tiere.

Wir haben bereits einen ähnlichen Wickler für einen anderen Drachen, aber weil der nicht mehr lieferbar war haben wir diesen bestellt.Der Wickler ist im großen und ganzen hochwertig verarbeitet und tut was er soll. Leider ist viel zu viel Seil auf der Rolle und somit springt das Seil beim Aufwickeln oft daneben und verhängt sich im Knauf.Der Spaß ist uns schnell vergangen als wir ein riesen Seilknäul hatten.Somit geht er wieder zurück.
