About this item

  • Designed for maximum hygiene - opener never touches the food within cans/tins and lids won’t fall into the can/tin
  • Automatically attaches via ‘lock-on’ technology that grips the lid (no need to clamp it on)
  • Safer than traditional openers - device opens cans/tins without cutting the metal, which leaves no sharp edges on the rim or lid
  • Lids are removed via mini-pliers/pincers once opened so no handling is required (see ‘Product description’ section below for instructions on how to use). Also includes a ring-pull opener
  • Easy to clean (wipe with a damp cloth; don’t put in the dishwasher). Dimensions: 8 (L) x 2.5 (W) x 2. 75 (H) inches

Open your cans/tins with hygiene in mind courtesy of the Auto Safety LidLifter from Kuhn Rikon. Once attached via the automatic, ‘lock-on’ mechanism, the opener removes lids without any contact whatsoever with the contents of the can/tin. It also prevents the all-too-common problem of lids falling into the can/tin. The device is safe to use as well as being hygienic: it doesn’t actually cut the metal, which ensures that unwanted sharp edges do not remain on either the can/tin or the lid. After a full rotation around the lid - and a noticeable reduction in resistance - the can/tin is open (and no more turning is required). To complete the job, simply lift the lid from the can/tin using the mini-pliers/pincers.

Opens the can in a way where the lid isn't super sharp. Super easy and fast to use. It's pricier for a can opener, but the quality is so good that I can't see myself going back to a regular opener.

My family had one of those plain white German safety can openers for years so that's what I'm used to, but they were sold out the one place I could find them (Walmart online).I have owned the red version only two weeks, but it seems durable, and it opens cans better than the German type. The longer twisty part makes it easier on your hands, and it's very ergonomic/comfortable. The mechanism for separating can lids is simple and seems to be well-made, and the little button to remove the lid with the claws seems good. My only worry is that it would weaken over time but I'll update if so.

I will never go back to a regular can opener!! I have gone through so many openers in the past because if rust in the cutters or warping. This product works in a completely different way, rather than cutting the metal it breaks the seal. No jagged edges!!!

Man, I love this can opener. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to use the other style where you have to clamp it on and it’s different for different cans and stuff? I hate those, but this is AMAZING.Here’s what I like:- Comfortably fits in your hand- Great, strong quality- Smoothly opens can- Easy to turn, with little resistance- Color (red) isn’t too bold, and is visually pleasing- Lid grabber thingy works easily- Spares the pain the other type of can opener gives

Opens can quickly & without sharp edges. The part you turn is very hard on the hand, however.

I had a very old safety edge can opener. The teeth had worn out over the years and it was time to replace it. I really didn't get how this one worked without the jaw style to clamp on the can. I used it just a couple of days ago, and it is SOOO easy to operate. No complicated was to get it to clamp on the can, easy to open the can itself. Would definitely recommend.

I've been looking for a traditional can opener for some years now, one that will function at around 100% reliability. However, the only model I've found recently is the Kuhn Rikon, which removes the entire lid, edge included. While I would prefer to remove only the inner lid (seems safer...?), I'll take what I can get and the Kuhn Rikon absolutely does what I need: Removing lids so that I can get to the food inside. It takes a little more effort to use, but anything's better than having to punch through the lid with a knife!

I have used other products from Kuhn Rikon in the past. Particularly pressure cookers, so I might be biased. I have also used several of this type of 'safety' or 'magic' can openers in the past. From my perspective, this is the best and easiest to use can opener that I have ever used or owned, and I am now almost 70, so that's a lot of can openers.Unlike some other openers of this type, it is especially easy to position and engage on the cans. The previous opener that this one replaced (a British one that resembles the Amazon Basics Safe Cut in appearance) was designed to be simplified, but was virtually impossible to position. Not so, this one. Just as the instructions explain, simply align the two semi-circular 'aiming' cutouts on the body and turn the knob about half a turn to engage and lock it on the can. It's really that simple and easy. After that, I find it easier to hold the knob in place and then move the longer handle to rotate round the rest of the can. Once a lack of resistance is felt, the lid has been separated from the can and a half-turn anti-clockwise of the knob releases the opener from the can and lid (which remains in place). The integrated 'pincher' does actually work to fully detach the separated lid from the can. Because of the way these types of opener operate, once the lid has been separated from the can, a vacuum exists within the can, particular if maintained by liquid within the can. This is not a major deal, but often means that it doesn't detach easily by itself. A fingernail, knife etc will work too, but with the aforementioned pincher, it's a breeze to accomplish without getting any liquid on your hands. As others have attested, this type of opener leaves a replaceable lid to the can without leaving any jagged edges. If you have kids or are worried about cutting yourself (like I am), you should probably use one of this type of opener, even if not this specific one.The only thing that I'm not so sure of is the hook for cans that come with ring-pull lids. I tried it only once (on a can of sardines) and it simply pulled the ring-pull out of the lid without removing any of it from the can.As I said, I love this can opener and would certainly recommend it to anyone. I expect it to last for a long time, but if it ever wears out, I would certainly buy another one without hesitation.I neither work for nor am I affiliated with either the manufacturer or Amazon. I just like this product and Kuhn Rikon, in general.

I’ve tried different kinds of can openers and prefer this style. My last one recently broke so I needed a new one and through online searching I discovered this one. It was more than I wanted to spend (about $22 CAD when I purchased) but I’m here to say that it’s worth it!There is a learning curve but once you figure out how to use it, it’s very easy and the pliers for lifting the lids off are so convenient. my last one I always had to pry the lids off with my hands. There is a chance for tiny metal shards if you go around the can further than a single rotation. You will feel when it has gone around the can (or watch for when you have). I have not had any issues with any metal shards myself.I am very happy with my purchase!
