I have the Bosch version of this tape that we got around $30 which we thought a good deal for as much as I've used it recently that we thought we would get them as good Christmas gifts. We found the Makingtec version after the fact and it not only measures further but has more features than the one that I have. I used it outdoors in the shade while doing siding and it was spot on when doing the gables of the house where a standard tape measure would flex or bend over 10ft long runs. I would otherwise need a helper to hold the other end of the standard tape measure whereas I did everything myself using this! I almost has my wife get me one like this instead lol. Great deal and very useful for the handyman in your life!

Surprisingly, this is as accurate as a tape measure within an inch or two. Name brand options with the same maximum distance cost twice or three times as much, so the somewhat cumbersome user interface is worth it. Just take a couple minutes to read the instructions and you'll be fine.

... because needed to use it outside but it can't see its own laser when it's bright outside. Was useless to me, but maybe good for indoor construction purposes. I need a more expensive, higher quality one.

Works great, but I did have problems measuring beyond 50 ft from a board I put on the chain link fence. It did well at 50 ft, & then I I'm guessing I couldn't hold it still enough to measure any farther, or the beam got wider than the 6" wide board.... Measuring to the house worked fine, but my back yard to the house isn't as deep.

Great to estimate square footage of rooms for carpet orders. Previously I would use a measuring tape, but this saves time and the hassle. It’ll pay for itself within a few uses. Great value, and decent accuracy too.

I have three of these devises and am having the same issue with all of them. In the feet/inches mode. The reader seems to be dropping the first inches digit when it goes to "10 inches or 11 inches". For example if I measure something that is 2' 9" that is what the devises shows. But if I measure something that is 2' 10" the device reads 2' 0" if I measure something that is 2' 11" the device reads 2' 1"I have been short 10" on several projects without even knowing it. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix for this issue?

Perfect size. Smaller than a cell phone. Very easy to use. Calculates area or volume automatically. A must have at this price.
