My daughter had an elevated lead test so we bought this to test surfaces. Luckily, everything came back negative. Our doctor said lead isn’t necessarily reliable when measured by a finger prick, but we still checked surfaces. We tested wood frames, windows, floors, faucets, and various paint.

Easy to use, seems to be sensitive, and allows for multiple tests -- which are all good things . We have a set of antique dishes that have multiple colors in the glaze, one of which with another tester returned as being leaded. This test got the same results, although it was a bit more evident that the particular color was the culprit because we knew to check it this time, And the reaction from the reagent is pretty obvious when you get positive for lead.

If you have multiple items to test, you might find yourself running low on reagent before using all the swabs.While it may not have the same sensitivity as some higher-end kits, it's an excellent option for peace of mind or basic testing needs. It’s a good value for the money and is perfect for occasional use around the house. A bit more reagent would make this kit feel more complete, but overall, it’s a solid choice for detecting lead.

After receiving the kit, I had to test it to make sure it worked. An old lead sinker was the perfect subject. After wetting the swab in the solution, I rubbed it on the sinker and it turned the correct color where the swab touched the sinker showing the presence of lead, testing successful.Some of the product pictures show the entire swab turning color. Not sure how that would happen and I would not expect you to see that when you test for let.I did notice a strong order from the testing liquid and was glad that I did my testing in the garage. You might want to consider this when you are testing.

This lead tester did not work well. First of all the instructions say to put 5 drops but there is no dropped cap on the little bottle, and I mean little. You will spill all out just trying to get some on the swab. I did do this but the swap did not rub easily on the area to be tested. It didn't work for me.

So, I actually had to grab a different set of these from a different brand to make sure these functioned properly. I tested them on a few things I expected to have lead content that swiped clean and I wasn't sure of the functionality, so I tested some actual lead and they lit right up. I thought that perhaps they weren't as sensitive as they should be, so I got some from a different brand that were highly acclaimed and retested only to find the same results. These are accurate as near as I can tell, good functionality and a great value for the money compared to competitors. They're easy to read as the color change can be quite dramatic, and they've got simple instructions and are easy to use.

The instructions seem simple, remove a cotton swab and then apply 5 drops of the activator solute to the swab and lastly wipe the swab on the surface for 30 seconds. The activator solution doesn’t have an eye dropper so you cannot apply 5 drops. I tried three different swabs (3 tests) and there was a color change on the swab; unfortunately the color change did not match the color scale that they provide on the box. So was there lead? I have no idea. I will not recommend this test kit.

I got these to make sure that my dog bowls (for food and water both) are lead-free.These are super easy to use, and I used them to test a glass bowl that, for some reason, ALL of my pets love to drink out of! It tested lead free.Then, I tried the other bowls- all lead free!But then, I tested it on a vintage Swarovski figurine, which I’m pretty sure has lead (I’ve heard the old ones to do increase the prisms)- and it too came back as lead free. I also tested another crystal piece from the early 80s- same result.This leaves me very conflicted about the product and its accuracy. Thus, I’m removing two stars because I don’t feel like I can trust it- which is disappointing.
