The Leviton VPT24-1PZ Vizia 24-Hour Programmable Indoor Timer with Astronomical Clock is an extremely flexible timer that handles many situations elegantly. That said, there is a trade-off in terms of complexity but if you can read, understand, and follow instructions then installation and setup will be simple, but possibly tedious activities.You need to make sure the device will physically fit into your intended electrical box. If it is already filled with other wires or too shallow this device might not fit. While you have the cover plate off to check, make sure there is a neutral (white) wire in the box as this device will not operate without it. There should also be wires for line (normally black), load (normally red or other color), ground (green or bare wire), and possibly one or more traveler wires from a three-way switch if you have a second switch on the circuit you want to control. The timer comes with white, ivory, and light almond face plates that are easily swapped. I wanted to add a timer to an existing 120V ceiling light in the hallway in our house. I discovered this programmable timer switch. I ordered it and when it arrived I found out that since this is a 3-way switch I also needed Leviton VP0SR-1LZ Digital Matching Remote Switch. I ordered it from Amazon. The instructions explain the required way these two are must be installed when you replace the existing switches. After installing them correctly these worked great. Programming the timer is not bad, and the switches still work like a standard 3-way switch when needed.

The installation was simple and the switch looks nice on the wall. Programming instructions are clear as to the steps needed to program the unit, but the process is not simple. I recommend that anyone who purchases this switch hold on to the instructions as there is no way someone can figure out the programming without the instructions. The programming is not very intuitive, and I honestly had no idea if my intended programming scheme was what I actually programmed the unit to do. My intention was for it to simply turn on my exterior lights at dusk and turn them off at dawn. I had to follow about 20 steps to get this to work, which I think is excessive for something that simple. Never the less, the unit works flawlessly and my lights are now turned on and off automatically at the appropriate times.So, overall its a good unit for a good price, as long as you don't get put off by the programming process. Also, the unit itself is quite large, and depending on your setup, may require making up to 5 connections in the electrical box the unit is to be installed in. If this unit will be replacing a normal switch in an older home, make sure to check the size of the existing box. Older homes tend to have small boxes, which will not accommodate this switch and all of the wiring. If installing a new box, I recommend getting the largest one that will fit. I installed this in a single pole configuration in a 3" deep single box, and it was just barely able to accommodate it.

I installed this 2 years ago and I haven't touched it since I installed it. Lights turn on at sundown and turn off just after sun up no matter what time of year. This switch works perfectly and was easy to program and install.

Easy to install and program. Works great and turns lights on and off as programmed. I checked both programming, standard and Pro. Both work fine. Now I have to see if the time changes automatically when clocks go one hour back in November.

este interruptor merece tener 5 estrellas pero me veo en la necesidad de ponerle tres estrellas debido a que ha sido etiquetado de forma incorrecta ya que no funciona cómo dimmer.

I like this timer. It's great for controlling our outdoor lights with random offsets around sundown and around programmed event times. It's standalone and requires no Wifi connection so no IOT security leak issues. It took a little time to learn how to program it, but it's not that hard. My only real negative is the backup battery. I'm on my third unit since 2011. The battery backup (3.6 v LiOH coin battery soldered on to the main circuit board) in the first unit died after a few years. The timer was working fine but if there was a power failure the clock would reset and time, date, and time zone info were lost and needed to be reprogrammed. Leviton sent me a new switch when I contacted them to see if the backup battery was user replaceable. Nice of them. I didn’t even ask for a replacement. The new unit lasted about 8 years. I didn’t bother contacting Leviton this time. Eight years is OK for a backup, but too bad the battery is not user replaceable. It's wasteful to trash a working switch just because the backup power supply dies.
