I gave this to an older gentleman who's been in the petroleum equipment business for over forty years. To my delight, he then revealed that old-timers in the business used to call the display on this sort of petroleum dispenser a "clock." We speculated that whoever designed this gadget was probably aware of that terminology, making this a visual pun. He also indicated that the design is authentic.My only complaint is that the clock has a cheap plastic feel. It also needs to be placed facing away from a wall, as if you walk around and view it from behind, the clock portion (though not the dispenser/body) is hollow with the battery exposed. Putting a cover on the backside of the clock would have made it more attractive when placed such that it will be seen from behind. Otherwise, I'm pleased, and more so as the recipient liked the gift enough to give it a home on his desk.
