This is much cheaper than replacing the whole unit as Carrier wants you to do.Making a collar is actually pretty easy... I use my wife's pony tail holders, the simple round black ones that come in cheap packs. Couple of twists gets it down to size. Once snug, push it up towards the top of the white part, slip the cover over and let the cover push it down until the cover is on right. You can tell if the bulbs are burnt out because the lights in the base go off... someone correct me if I am wrong! Carrier wants you to replace every year; there is no reason to as I see it. [EDIT: actually you can't. the lights on the base have no bearing on whether the bulb is working, you should replace yearly just to be sure. Also now this company puts out a collared version. If the lights on the base are dim or out you should replace the whole thing and not just the bulb.]

As mentioned above, the bulb works fine with the Carrier ballast, and in my experience lasts as long as the Carrier OEM replacement at significantly less cost. It does require a modification. There is no support on the bulb pin socket to hold it in the case. To remedy this, I crazy glue a piece of screen spine around the bulb socket about 1/2 inch from the glass end of the socket. The rim on the case will butt up against the glued-on spine and keep keep the bulb firmly in the socket. Also, on the ballast, I replaced the tamper proof screws with regular screws to facilitate changing.

This will work with the Carrier/Bryant, but it definitely is NOT a mechanical match for the bulb you remove. To remove the old bulb, first remove the screws and open the plastic case. The plastic case slips over the bulb and the bulb is plugged into a circuit board which you remove with no tools once the plastic case is removed. The bulbs used by Carrier/Bryant have a collar that the plastic case catches to hold the bulb firmly plugged into the circuit board. As you can see from the photo, the bulb has pins that are appropriate for the circuit board socket, but no collar, so you need to jury rig the bulb to hold it in place. I created an artificial collar for the one bulb I bought from Amazon with a few rubber bands. The UV actual bulb has the code 44000106, which you can find with a Google search. I got ten bulbs from Alibaba for $156

Arrived on time as expected and was packaged nicely. Reason for only three stars is that the UV light is not as bright as my old bulb was after over a year of use. Upon installing this new bulb, light seems almost as dim as the old bulb was when the maintenance guy said it needs to be replaced. Only decided to keep it bc old bulb is completely out and figure a dim bulb is better than no bulb until I find another supplier to order from.

One bulb barely lights, the other is about 25% of what the originals were at. A waste of $72. Will try to return and buy the real deal with the ballast and all.

I ordered a replacement bulb from a different supplier and the pins were too short. This bulb fit perfectly, and the customer service from LightShop Direct is outstanding. Will buy again. Was also way cheaper than a replacement bulb previously ordered from my heating contractor.

At the base of the bulb, there was no shoulder that ensures the bulb will not dislodge itself from its socket like the original one. The cover fits over the original bulb with a shoulder and keeps it secure as it sits horizontally in the furnace. The bulb itself works fine.
