I don’t usually rave about light switches, but this Lutron Maestro Motion Sensor Switch (MS-OPS2-SW) is one of the best $23 purchases I’ve made. If you’ve ever walked into a dark closet with your hands full and fumbled for a switch, this is the upgrade you didn’t know you needed.Where I Installed It & How It Performs✅ First-Floor Walk-In Closet – ON/OFF version • As soon as I enter, the light pops on instantly. • It makes a little click! sound when activating - not a dealbreaker, just noticeable. • Works off heat/motion, so it’s not ultra-sensitive, but it gets the job done.✅ Master Walk-In Closet – Dimmer version • This version feels much more premium - less plastic, heavier, and no clicking noise. • Instead of snapping on, the light fades in and out gradually, which is a nice touch. • Blends well with the Lutron dimmers I already have throughout my house. One Small Flaw – The Missing “Always-On†FeatureFor everyday use, this switch is perfect. But there’s one small oversight that might matter in certain scenarios. You can manually turn it on and off, but you can’t force it to stay on indefinitely.🔸 Example: I was considering putting this in my utility room. Most of the time, I’m just grabbing something and leaving, so an auto-off feature would be perfect.🔹 The problem: What if a technician is working on my furnace or water heater for an hour? Every 20-30 minutes, they’d have to wave at the sensor or walk by the switch to keep the light on. Annoying. It would be awesome if holding the switch for 5 seconds could override the motion sensor and keep the light on. If I ever sell my house and want to turn on all the lights for a showing, I’d have to manually reset them every time.Final Thoughts – Should You Buy It?✅ For closets, bathrooms, and utility spaces? Absolutely.✅ For $23, this is a steal.✅ Reliable, responsive, and easy to install.⌠If you need an “always-on†override, this might not be ideal for certain rooms.I already have Radio RA 2 throughout most of my house, and I wasn’t about to drop $300-$500 just for a couple of extra spots like a bathroom closet or utility room. This Lutron Maestro Motion Sensor Switch is a phenomenal solution for a fraction of the price. If you’re debating, just buy it. You won’t regret it.

Thrilled to find a motion sensor that didn't require a neutral. It works perfectly. Total game changer for my mudroom.

Game changer. I had a wind up light switch in my garage so I could go out into it at night and it would turn off by itself. It was OK but when I came home at night I had to walk to the door in the dark. Now I set the light for several minutes and can walk out to the fridge or drive in to the garage and there is light! How satisfying.....

I wanted a motion sensing, auto on/off daylight sensing switch and replaced a poor performing Leviton with this Lutron model. After engaging with Lutron's (very good) technical support, I still was unable to get the on/off daylight sensing technology to work. But the motion sensing works very well, it's just that the lights come on with motion all day long when my desire was for that to only for night time.Oh, well...it does work well at night.

Works really well , use it in our garage. Every time we walk out it switches the lights on

With this switch installed, the lights in a seldom used room come on automatically when the door is opened and then go off after a set timer period (customizable) is reached with no movement noted in the room. I’ve installed these in our laundry room, powder bathroom, and a master bedroom closet. Too many times before installing these did we accidentally leave the lights on for, in some instances, days before realizing that. I no longer have that problem. Money well spent in my opinion.

I've been doing DIY electrical work for decades and have never found a component as troublesome as this. I installed it and found that it would trigger without any person or motion in the vicinity. I tried all the settings and even resorted to their "support" staff (repeatedly). All of this was in vain. Eventually, one of the support people mentioned that "sometimes the units malfunction in the presence of WiFi." Great -- I spend money and time getting the strongest possible signals all through my house and, although my computers and phones and cameras are happy, my light switch goes on strike. Maybe you will be luckier than me but in my case I eventually gave up and bought a Leviton equivalent for the same price and it worked in the "problem" location with no problem.

For me, it takes time to get used to not touching the switch to turn on or off. Not being an electrician, I had to call for support on installation as my box was not wired as expected. I got immediate, helpful support. The motion detector, at least as I have it set up, is even more sensitive than expected as it goes on when I walk by the doorway but that's ok. While I have it set to go off in 5 minutes of no motion detection, it sometimes takes a much longer time to do so. Most of the time, however, it does adhere to 5 minutes.

No longer do I have to tolerate fumbling for a light switch in the dark. I installed this in the hallway next to the bathroom on a 1-minute timer and it works great.

Same price as my local home depot, but im very lazy so it was good that the mailman delivered it to my house.Good quality, I only wish there was a smaller time option. Perhaps 30 seconds?Other than that, its awesome, I feel like Oscar Issac from Ex Machina.
