I was a little apprehensive about purchasing this given it's low price but I figured why not. I had been struggling with a recent conversion of my 7'6" 3 wt single hand rod to micro skagit and was told I needed to use flat mono running line. What a PITA that is. Cut fingers trying to stretch it out, constant tangling but hey, it does shoot well behind an OPST Micro Series Commando Head and floating tip. Then I found this 15lb coated running line from Maxcatch - I spent the afternoon unwinding the flat mono running line from my reel, and then had to disentangle the new coating running line. Had to make some length adjustments for both my backing and shorten the running line by 25' but it now fits nicely. Given it's a 7'6" 3 wt meant for small stream fishing with soft hackles and nano intruders I figured I wasn't going to need the extra running line and Dacron backing. Took it out on the river today to test it out while fishing and it was a joy to cast with. No more coiled tangled mess that is mono shooting line. Shoots pretty well also although it's not the same as mono running line, but I'm willing to give up some shooting distance for ease in line management when fishing. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for an alternative to mono running line when looking to try micro skagit.

First of all, this line is not on a spool. It is tempting to just grab an end and start pulling line off the pile.DO NOT DO THIS!!!!Your line will end up twisted like crazy. You need to somehow get the line onto a spool or paper towel roll or something then pull the line from it by UNROLLING the line pile. You need to unroll it like a spool and not pull the line out without unrolling it or it will twist. Or you will end up like me, spending an hour untwisting the line, which is not fun when there is 125 feet of it. LOLOverall, it does what it should. It floats just enough in water to easily mend and recast. Doesn't tangle up super easy. Nice bright color for visibility.I would recommend cutting off the factory welded loops and either making your won welded loops that are much longer and stronger, or using knots and super glue to connect lines. This line in 0.37" diameter doesn't have much float line coating on it. It doesn't weld very well because of this and can pull from the fly line coating under heavy load, leading to total failure. I had to double up the shooting line onto itself for more welding surface when I welded it to my Skagit shooting head. Even that might not be enough and I will keep an eye on it.The 0.037" line feels well matched with the 600 grain Maxcatch Skagit shooting head line on a 9wt 13' Spey rod (Maxcatch SkyTouch rod).

Anytime you go fly fishing, it cannot all be bad. The line strength was appropriate for where I was fishing - a medium sized Southern Lake, on the bank or fishing ramp. The line had good taper, and shooting strength was appropriate for light to medium flies. Next time I will experiment with a lighter line. Color was excellent for fish in slightly dingy water.

Good looking line also strong. But, a bit difficult to untangle. It should be spooled.

I used this line as the running line for my shooting head on an 8 foot rod and it performs wonderfully.
