About this item

  • FACTORY INSTALLED PICKUPS: comes with internal Piezo pickups that let you control volume and tone through a PA system or amplifier; boost your sound in any venue and dial-in your tone
  • WHY IT MATTERS: cajons aren't naturally loud, so if you play with larger combos or in bigger venues, you'll need a volume boost to be heard; these pickups lift the ceiling of normal cajon applications so you can cut through the mix
  • HOW IT WORKS: like a mini drum kit, the mahogany playing surface produces bass, snare, and tom/bongo tones; these sounds vary depending on where you strike with your hands (LEFT: snare, MIDDLE: bass, RIGHT: tom/bongo)
  • GO DEEPER: the modern composite resonating body has a large forward-facing bass port that projects toward your audience; this gives you fuller low-end tone
  • OF NOTE: the pickups don't require batteries to work; just plug into an amp or PA with a quarter-inch cable, adjust the dials, and start playing (cable not included)
  • ZOOM IN: there are two dials and two quarter-inch jacks; SNARE AND BASS: mix your tone, OUTPUT: send your signal to an amp or PA, LINK: join other Meinl Percussion passive pickup instruments through the cajon's system
  • BY THE NUMBERS: this compact size Slaptop Cajon measures 14 1/2" long x 7 1/2" wide x 8 1/2" tall and weighs 4 lbs
  • THE BIG PICTURE: Meinl is a family-owned musical instrument manufacturer and brand established 1951 in Germany; our expert German designers have deep relationships with our builders to ensure you're delivered the absolute finest quality

Equipped with dials to mix your sound, the Pickup Compact Slaptop Cajon gives you the ultimate playing experience when extra amplification is needed. Bass and snare volume knobs give you the ability to individually dial-in each frequency for a well-balanced tone and mix. A quarter-inch cable jack allows you to send your signal through any amp or PA system (cables not included). Additionally, this cajon is equipped with a quarter-inch “link” jack where can link other Meinl passive pickup instruments through this cajon's system and control their output with the cajon's dials. This eliminates the need for additional amps or outputs to minimize your setup. Ideal for any plugged-in outdoor show, large venue or intimate acoustic coffee house set, the Meinl Pickup Compact Slaptop Cajon is extraordinarily versatile for any setting. The unique T-shape of this cajon is designed for upright playing. Keep your back straight with the playing surface in your lap, and play your cajon grooves like normal. Its mahogany playing surface with fixed internal snares on one side delivers outstanding crisp slap tones with punchy bass in the center. This surface can be played with either your hands or cajon brushes. The durable composite resonating body in black reflects the sound for a clear tone, and forward-facing sound ports help the cajon to project in acoustic settings. This compact sized Pickup Slaptop Cajon measures 14 ½” L x 10” H x 5 ¾” D.

This instrument sounds great through all systems I've connected it to. I wish the tone control did more, and that the controls to the snare and bass pickups were more linear, but for such an obscure instrument at this price I really shouldn't be complaining. I may just be doing it wrong, as I'm more of a speaker guy than a musician. Some bigger and smaller friends have had a hard time holding it in their laps, but the rubber feet provide great isolation without diminishing the sound as far as I can hear, so you can just put it on a steady surface and play standing or seated.I had a blast hooking this up to some guitar FX pedals and other FX devices. It has a nice resonant tone that can be altered a lot, yet when you avoid FX and plug in to a clean amp and speaker system, it will sound just like itself but louder. Very versitle!I experienced feedback issues when cranking my amp and playing too close, but facing the ports away from the speaker makes me think this could work as a gigging musician's instrument whether plugged directly into an amp, played acoustically in smaller spaces, or run through a digital device.I can't rave enough about how cool this thing is and that none of my musical friends have ever heard or seen something quite like this.Great job, Meinl!

OK, I was a little surprised by how small this Cajon was when I got it, and it did not put out much sound acoustically. However, when I hooked it up to the P.A. in my studio, I was shocked at how much snare and bass it put out and how well it performed. I really love the internal pick-ups and adjusting knobs; also the fact that I don't have to bend over anymore to play like I did with my other box Cajon. I also like the convenience of not having to hook up microphones. The biggest disappointment was when I tried the built in link function. The instrument I hooked up through the link negated the internal pick-ups of the Cajon. So, if you are just purchasing this for the Cajon, it is a good buy, but if you plan on linking another instrument, you will not like the results. It looks like I will have to take up another channel on the mixer board after all. I would give 5 even 6 stars if the link feature worked correctly.

I like the portability, the quality of construction and the pickups to connect to my guitar amp.Without the amp, the cajon sounds muted, but that’s to be expected as it’s small.Update:I tried connecting to my Scalert 4i4 audio terrace and then to GarageBand running on my iPad.The audio came through nice and clear. Haven’t tried making a recording, yet.

Was hesitant to buy since I like to "feel" the sound of the drum. But after much research and listening to the pro's play it on YouTube, I pulled the trigger. So happy I did!! It has saved my sanity through this COVID19 crisis. I would recommend this cajon. I love that I can sit with it in my lap, or stand at a table and play. No bending over. LOVE MY LITTLE GEM!

Arrived on time and was in perfect condition.Very Impressive looks and feel of Quality materials.I have the Meinl Jam Cajon and love it, but wanted Something portable with pickups to do some recording.I'm waiting on a patch cord to experiment with it, but just by playing around on it I can tell that it has nice, defined tones.Because of its smaller size, it's not very loud, but it most likely is intended to perform best when amplified. It has the feel of playing bongos, but more comfy..it has rubber padding that rest on your thighs.Very happy with this Purchase.

Sounds good with and amp but without one it's really quiet.

Just arrived today. First off, it's small. Smaller than my Meinl bongo cajon. But, sits comfortably on my lap. Very comfortable. Tone is high to mid range. Plugged it into my guitar amp. Turning the tone knob to 6 seems best for my liking. More bass produced through amplification. Nice feature. Will it replace my bongo cajon? It could, I think. Well built as I expected from Meinl. With or without amplification in a small room does just fine. For a small gig, coffee house or outdoors I would go with the amplification. I use a Myer mic for my bongo cajon. This slap top cajon is well worth the money. Giving it four stars for the small size. I'm 6 foot, in case you were wondering. This will not replace a full cajon. I'm 56 years old and back problems. So a regular cajon is not an option for me. The built-in amplification with this is very convenient. Easy to adjust. I would buy it again.
