Got a laugh out of the insert that came with these that reminded that these straps are not bear-proof. I really just wanted to:1) Deter people from dropping their dog-poo bags in my bins and2) Maybe keep bins closed if they fell over and deter crafty raccoons (mostly number 1 though).So far, it seems to work so I will continue to use them.

Every now and then, the wind will knock my garbage and recycling cans over. When this happens, squirrels break into the cans and drag trash everywhere. These keep the cans closed when they tip over and the squirrels can't figure out how to take them off. They're fantastic.

This keeps the critters from pulling the trash out of the can. It goes on easily and comes off just as easily. The strap is adjustable to fit your trashcan. It's very sturdy and seems well made. I can't say how long it lasts because mine vanished (seems someone else liked it too), but it looks like it would last a long time. Will buy another.

This has worked the best for us. We were constantly getting raccoons in the garage. The raccoons were smart enough figure out how to open garage bin with other items we tried like bungee cords but so this product has been successful. It’s been several months with no ripped open garage bags!. The only negative comment I have to say is that my neighbors are not happy because the raccoons are now in their garage cans. I recommended this product to them too!

I had an animal that kept going into my garbage can. With this product I was able to keep the lid closed and prevent little critters from going into the bin at night. Super easy to use. Easy to assemble.

I use the official DSNY bins. These lid locks are perfect. These have a nice solid weight on the ends that you attach to the handles/rails and the edge of the bins. You adjust them like you would for your laptop bag or bra strap by sliding the buckle for a snug fit. The bins do come with a rubber latch but it gets very cold in NYC in the winter and I didn't want to wait for that to crack. Also noticed it deters people from going into my bins overnight looking for cans as they do with my neighbors on both sides that overstuff their bins. Yes, this is part of the reason why NYC has a rat problem. Why get bins and leave the lids open. Also, I know that I'm not contributing to the booming orchestra of lids banging against gates in the wind. 🫡🙂

Great product on paper, but once you get it, you realize the straps are way too thin and weak. The buckle is super cheap plastic and does not stay tight after you tighten up the strap. Just pull on the strap and it will loosen. May keep trash can lids from flying off in the window, but Completely useless for keeping out persistent animals.
