Short and sweet: This is a nice beginner microscope. It is not as high powered as you would want in a professional context, but it is great for kids or for students at he undergraduate level and it functions well. the ability to take pictures of what you see makes it great for school projects but also just for evaluating whatever you wish to look at and then sharing your findings with others. It has color filters to improve optics on certain samples, but this is not a replacement for reactive staining and can compete with what you see in reactive staining, so it is important to always double check that you aren't using a color filter when you shouldn't be, but the filters do offer increased clarity on certain samples, as they are intended to do. This is a good quality for the price and I quite like it. It is well made and works well for the purpose. So far, it is working very well and I have found no flaws or difficulties in operation or workmanship. This is a good product. Good luck in your search.

Seeing things under a microscope is both fun and educational. This is a beginner level microscope, but it has the basic functions of the ones used in schools and some colleges get one, you will like it. Thank you for reading my review. I hope you find it helpful. OZ

It is not nearly as well put together as one would expect. loose lenses, in fact, the oil immersion as well as 1 other lens arrived with scratches. they were miniscule scratches... but ITS A MICROSCOPE. So small scratches appear at the magnification you set it to. so imagine a scratch.

Came in a thin cardboard box with no foam or wrap for protection. Slides were loose, broken and microscope not functioning. I even checked the reviews before ordering. Unfortunate.

I remember being young and getting excited to either work with a chemistry set or use a microscope. I specifically remember liking the microscope set we had and it filled up many an hour with finding things to place into the glass slides. With this neat set I have an even better one than any I can remember in a domestic version. There is a phone attachment contraption which is new compared to the one I was referencing from the 1980's. I like how this just comes with he glass slides that are ready to receive specimens rather than pre loaded slides. I always thought the preloaded ones were not as interesting as what I could come up with. Having a blank slide allows for your mind to open up to the possibilities of specimens such as insects or plants.I am impressed with the rotation ability of the different lens powers that come attached in a rotunda fashion. Along with the eye piece lens part and that rotating area you can come up with many different ranges of power strength to link up to your to your specifications. This kit comes with enough to get a beginner going or a seasoned microscope user. I understand there are modern variations out there of a microscope where there is a camera that does the exploring and there is a monitor making it very computer like. I personally like the old school method of specimen observation because if you have just that small area and then have to focus with one eye, there is a meditative/discipline level that leads to a more on point inspection. This is subjective to me and also is what is fun about a device like this is it allows for you to find your preference with different lens powers as well as the slide observation area. This is small and can be used on most any tables with a smooth surface a recommendation. The light sources on the scope is powerful and illuminated the slides nicely. I have mildly bad eyes and am impressed with the illumination around the lenses which works well with either my contacts or glasses. The other various tolls that are included make this a super neat set. These things include cylindrical tube containers as well as tweezers and a few other things.I love the different color filters which also operate on a rotation rotunda wheel like contraption. The set I had as a child had individual slide covers that were the filters so having an auto selection attached to the microscope is not only ergonomic but entertaining for me.In conclusion this set was nostalgic as well as a continued educational tool which I recommend to adults as well as kids with adult supervision.

I've tried a few cheap microscopes, and they are basically just a turnoff for kids. The reality is that unless it's a higher grade microscope, it's just not interesting. Same is true for telescopes.
