This valve did not shut the steam passing through the radiator when the radiator became hot. It caused excessive heat from the radiator on which it was installed, a loss of pressure throughout the heating system, and cooler radiators elsewhere in the house. It is a considerable waste of energy as the boiler has to keep running to keep the steam pressure up.

If you pay less for a product, it's normal to consider it a better value. But when the product you are buying is a low quality knockoff, it can actually be much worse value. Such is the case with these steam valves, that are only worth considering as paper weights or decorative items.The listing is a little misleading. Hoffman is in the name, but scrolling through the product information clarifies that they are "Hoffman style." That's like if somebody built a car in their garage and advertised it as "Tesla style." These may be similar looking to valves made by Hoffman, but they are not in any way similar quality.In terms of the install, they install easily as does any other valve. But the internals are completely inadequate. They are essentially doing the opposite of what you would want good steam valves to do.CONCLUSIONThis kind of mislabeled knock-off is not unique to online. I found some similar junk at several large big box repair stores. Beware that you are getting the actual quality product made by the actual company that is listed. In this case, save your time.

Needed one for a damaged valve and it fit perfectly, so the extras will come in handy eventually.

I bought these to replace two older valves that were leaking. These somewhat work. They vent the air and when the steam hits they are restricted but there is a small constant flow of steam out of these. I would prefer they not say hoffman in the ad.

Put a new boiler in a used these because it was such a deal. Big mistake. They filled with water and where shooting out th top and would not close.

Valves do not regulate, they remain open 100% of the time. Waist of my efforts, money and heating fuel.

These "steam" vents do not close when at-temperature. They vent steam constantly resulting in a massive waste of fuel.

I installed 5 of these vents and all 5 failed after couple days ..waste of money do not purchase
