Be sure you have a very deep socket that fits over the pull shaft and allows the wrench handle to attach and screw the valve on. Home Depot had a black deep socket that was 1/4†deeper than the chrome deep socket. You really need that extra 1/4†to get the wrench handle into the socket. Once the valve is installed the shower diverter works like a charm.

I have an old Moen shower/bath from the 70s. The diverter valve lever failed. Once I got the old corroded bolt off, this new replacement lever was simple to install and works exactly as intended. Shower and bath are working correctly once again.

No need for photos, this is the original replacement MOEN item for your old, very old MOEN shower/tub water diverter. Our setup in both bathrooms are 1963, and this is that perfect replacement part. The old diverter required the 1" deep well socket, and this new replacement diverter also required the 1" deep well socket. I tap danced for a very long time getting every piece of information about a possible replacement, finally I stepped out in faith and ordered this part. "It works"!

This is the correct part for my 50 yr old Moen shower / tub diverter. The only correction to note is that the Moen info site on removal of the old unit says to use a 7/8 deep well socket. There are two problems with that info. First my 50 yr. old unit needed a 1 1/16in deep well socket or a box wrench to remove it and the new item uses a 1 in deep well socket or 1 in box wrench to install. I did send Moen an e-mail on this to correct their information.

I bought this to replace a diverter that was sticking and leaking (in shower mode). Access to it was simple by removing a couple of screws from the plate. Though, I did have to file/trim away part of the tile (using a Dremmel) that was covering part of the diverter. Using a one inch socket, the diverter came out and was replaced very easily. I thought I was going to have some difficulty because it had been installed over 20 years ago but to my surprise...nope, the job was done. If I get another 20 years I'll be quite satisfied! It's looks exactly like the one it replaced.UPDATE: Several months after installing this diverter it started sticking. After using the shower you have to manually pull the diverter pin back out. It's not a major issue but it should function properly while it still is reasonably new.

Had to replace my 25 year old shower diverter and decided to do it myself. Straight forward job if you have a 1" socket and channel lock to remove and replace. Cleaned out inside of pipe before installing part, as recommended by Moen. Tested - no leaks. Valve opens automatically upon water shut off.Save yourself $125 in labour and get'r done!

I have two 30 year old showers with Moen Valves. The buttons to divert the water from shower to tub were becoming increasingly difficult to push/pull. A google search led me to a online instructional video on replacing a Moen diverter valve, which told me the part number that I required, which led me to Amazon. Easy peasy!

Solved the problem with the sticky valve. Very easy to install, but you may need to buy or borrow a 1" deep socket. No need to shut the water at the main to install this product. Check the Moen website to make sure that this this is the correct part for your faucet assembly. This is the correct part for the older faucet assemblies. (Prior 2004 I believe). There is a similar product available which for newer installations which is slightly longer.
