My husband is obsessed. We have a nice wood burning stove and he is meticulous about his care for it. So recently, when a log seemed too wet in the stove, he decided he should check all his firewood before using it.This little gadget has been like a fun toy for him. He checks every part of a piece of firewood before bringing it into the house. I think it had just become fun.It's easy to use, accurate for what we can tell, less expensive than others, durable, easy to charge, lightweight. It tests all different wood types. It comes with an extra pair of the little metal nubby things that you jab into the wood.There are quite a few YouTube videos showing how to use it.I don't have any hesitations about recommending it. It seems to do exactly what it is supposed to do.

Works great so far. Per an expert with wood burning stoves, advised me to test the wood in the middle, not the ends of it.

This review is specifically for model MT19, which is sold by several rebranded sellers, so check the model number before you buy. I bought this product to replace a 5-year-old meter that I had. The plastic supporting the metal probes on the old meter broke and couldn't be fixed.I researched, read the reviews and bought this MT19 moisture meter because of the features and reviews: (a) Backlit display; (b) Built-in flashlight; (c) Easy on/off button, (d) Simple modes for soft and hardwood, and (e) the positive reviews.The backlit display made it easy to read the meter in day light. The metal probes are smaller than my old one. They seemed to be weak and gave a little when pushing them into hardwood (oak), which was a concern. The flashlight is useful if needed at night.I use a moisture meter to assess the moisture content of firewood before burning the logs. After years of using a Tavool meter, you could say that I am an old hand at this and know what I am doing.The first unit of this product didn't seem to be accurate at all. The meter showed a moisture content of 15% on freshly cut and split sugar maple, where my old meter showed as off the chart. Although moisture meters weren't made for measuring moisture on the palm of my hands, but I tested it anyway to see it would register a reading. Each mode showed a different reading: 14%-15% packing, 30%-40% building, 20%-22% soft wood, 10-11% hardwood. Giving the product the benefits of the doubt, I ordered a replacement.The replacement didn't seem to be much better. I tested it on a fresh cut maple (hardwood) 10-inch log rounds (not split). The log rounds were placed facing skyward to absorb water from the rain as possible for testing. After 10-hours continuous drizzle and heavy rain fell on the logs, I used this MT19 meter to assess the moisture content of logs. With the mode setting on soft wood, I expected the bark to be off the chart as the old one. It showed 59% - good enough. With the mode setting on hardwood, I tested the surface of the log rounds saturated with water The readings were wildly inconsistent: (a) at the core (center of the log), 29%, (b) at various spots in between the bark and the core, the meter showed 11% to 18%, and (c) testing the same spot the reading jumped 14% to 22%. Readings below 20% for a water saturated log weren't what I expected. I am returning these units and buy the exact replacement for my broken Tavool meter. It doesn't have the fancy features, but it seems accurate.

I compared moisture readings on wood for my fireplace. Tested a current wood shipment against my seasoned supply. Readings were consistent. Easy to read and nice size to handle. Have not yet tried on trouble shooting inside the home looking for moisture problems. Will update when I get to that problem.

I bought this moisture meter, so that I could work on my first live edge project. Very easy to use and will make a great addition to my tools. Not sure how often I'll use it, but the price was very reasonable.

The meter was packaged nicely when received. It functions exactly as expected - identified the wet areas behind the tiles in the shower unit. As the areas started to dry several days later, the meter also showed the corresponding reduction in the moisture reading. It is a good value for money for a DIY-er.
