About this item

  • Cholla driftwood sticks are great for creating a natural appearance, and adding additional hiding places for shrimp and small fish or climbing decorations for hermit crabs.
  • Easily attach live plants such as anubias, bucephalandra, or even moss to create a natural sunken log effect, or place in reptile habitats to create a desert look.
  • Consists of all-natural, organic dried husk of the Cholla cactus with a porous skeleton-like structure and soft texture.
  • Each stick is approximately 4” long and 0.5-1.5 inches wide. You will receive randomly selected sizes both thin and thick.
  • Boiling the wood prior to use is recommended and will reduce natural slight browning of your water and help them sink better as they are very light and will float initially. This will reduce over time.

SubstrateSource "cholla wood" aquarium driftwood is all-natural, dried husk of the cholla cactus. Its porous structure and soft texture make it both a unique aquarium decoration and a functional feature. Use it as a base to attach anubias, java fern and aquatic mosses or as a site for small fish and shrimp to find food and shelter. Hermit crabs also love cholla wood. This pack contains three pieces, each approximately 4 inches long. The diameter of each piece can vary between 0.5 and 1.25 inches.

These logs are a perfect addition to my small tanks. My shrimp love going in and on top of the logs. They also love snacking on the logs when it has some biofilm to eat! In my betta tank the log is just a decoration as the betta is too big to hide inside. I boiled the logs for about 15-20 minutes to remove the color so it would not tint the water. That was a good decision!

I will be ordering more of these for my 2nd tank. I ordered the pack of 3 wood logs to add an interesting look to my tank and give my shrimp something to play around on. (My tank is only 5 gallon...I have guppies, shrimp and mystery snails.) Everyone in the tank seems to love these little logs. The shrimp crawl around on them, the snails have been all over them, etc. They are really pretty and the perfect size to lay around and look beachy. I did boil them like they recommend and I'm happy to say that they look great and they are staying on the bottom of the tank.

These are a great addition for my 5 gallon tank. My shrimp love to hide in them, the snails like to climb them, and the fish like to swim through them. Unfortunately one of the three logs arrived in pieces, perhaps they could have been packaged with a bit more padding, but I didn't mind as it adds a more interesting dynamic to the setup. I did soak them before attempting to put them in, but they still needed to be dug into tbe substrate to keep them from floating. After 24-48hrs they no longer float and i could adjust them as desired. I love the natural wood color it adds to the tank. I think for the price you get a great product.

I bought these as a way to protect newly laid fish from being eaten by bigger fish. The many holes allow for me to look into the interior of this woody portion of a limb. The babies do use it. They are surviving, so it's working. They also look really good in the aquarium.

Bought for shrimps to hide in as they are in with small fish. Not as hollow as I was expecting with one peice not appearing hollow at all. Quite slow to get fully waterlogged; one piece took 24h to soak and is in use and they seem to like it. 2 other pieces have now been soaking with a weight on for 3 days and still float as soon as the weight is removed. I'm sure they will get there with patience and hopefully will do the job of protecting the baby shrimps when my adults begin to breed

Pretty decent I guess for the price. This isn’t common for us in Canada to have this, but I get fry in my aquarium and I thought it maybe a good hiding spot.I soaked them for 2 weeks changing water every 3 days. They stunk bad after that. So I boiled them 5 times for 15 minutes per time. They still stink, but not as bad.Since I don’t have experience with Cholla not sure if you have to boil them for 2 days, but 5x 15 minutes seemed like a lot plus they sat in the hot pot after for a few hours.

I expected them to be small and they were. But one was crushed in little tiny pieces. I'll be returning them and probably won't buy these again
