I have four different sized chain saws and a pole saw, and the local hardware store charges $12-15 per chain to sharpen them so after doing two chains by myself, this set pays for itself. I had tried an electric rotary sharpening tool, and it worked well but I wanted a set that was more useable in the field and one that had different sized tools to match the chain. This kit fit that need and has worked well so far.

It took some time getting used to it but with some research I was able to manage. The Neo/Tech chainsaw sharpening kit comes complete with everything you need to get a good edge on your chain teeth keeping you from having to buy new chains after a few good cuts. This is the first time I use a chain sharpening kit and it was confusing to say the least. I spent some time online watching videos to make sure I understood how to do it properly. The one con with this kit is the lack of instructions for first timers. A small manual or booklet maybe, even a direct web link for a digital manual would be nice and helpful. Otherwise the functionality and build quality of the tools in this kit are good and get the job done.

We have a couple of chainsaw sharpening kits, one for the garage/ shop and one for the vehicle. It has happened that we grab the chainsaws to go work on a project in the field and wear down the chains, but don't have replacement chains or files on hand. So now we have this kit stays in the vehicle. We watched a couple of videos online to figure out how to use it, but this kit also comes with a decent instruction card that is useful if you haven't used files like this.

This is a great set that has good quality files for all the standard size chains. I about five different saws with three different size chains so I was looking for a single set to bring along instead of trying to remember which set goes with which saw. This set is identical to most chain sharpening tools with a metal plate that acts as the file holder and guide base. The included wooden handle is okay. The depth gauge to file the rakers is handy but I find myself not really using the guide and just taking a few swipes on each as I go. The plastic measuring tool is kind of handy.

A complete kit with a standard set of chain saw file sizes and a flat file along with the typical wood handle all packaged in what has now become the norm of a roll-up storage bag. This particular kit is much larger than a few others we’ve looked at in person at the local retail outlets. It is a good bit larger than our favorite portable chain sharpening kit from Ryobi. While fully capable of doing the job, this larger size takes that much more room in the chainsaw “go bag”. Not a huge deal as we will likely keep this in the storage shed where we hang our extra chains , but if you want to squeeze it into a chainsaw case you carry into the woods it may be a tighter fit than desired.

I have a 16” chainsaw and two 10” pole chainsaws. My home is surrounded by woods so, not surprisingly, the saws get regular use cutting branches, bucking fallen trees, etc. One of my pole saw’s chains had gotten fairly dull. I’d been avoiding using it, thinking I’d eventually buy a new chain. When I saw this relatively inexpensive sharpening kit, I thought I’d give it a try.The kit comes in a roll up pouch that closes with a velcro strap. An additional strap on the pouch allows you to hang or attach the pouch to your toolbag. Pretty much everything you need to sharpen your chainsaw chain is included: 3 sizes of round files, a flat file, a handle for the files (my set came with a wooden handle; it sounds like some kits ship with a plastic one), an angle guide, depth and checking gauges, and a groove cleaner. I’d never sharpened my chainsaw blade with this sort of a kit before but, with a couple of readings over the instructions, I went at it and I’m pleased with the results: After about 20 minutes of work, my 10” polesaw has a sharp chain again! Sharpening each tooth took only a couple of passes with the file. The files seem to be of decent quality but not the type to last forever. I don’t need to sharpen my chains that often, so at the price of this kit, I’ll be happy to get a few years’ worth of sharpening out of them and I’m pretty sure these tools are up to that.

Product: NEO-TEC Chainsaw Sharpener File Kit,Chain Saw Sharpener Tool with 5/32, 3/16, 7/32-Inch Round Chainsaw Files, Handle, 6-Inch Flat File, Filing Guide, Depth Gauge, Check Gauge, Groove Cleaner,PouchReview: I got this kit to sharpen my wife's new tiny chainsaw, one of the cute ones with the tiny 4" bar. They're much better saws than you expect them to be, by the way. Unfortunately... the smallest round file in this kit is still just a tad too big for those tiny chains so it was a no-fit. Not a worry, though, since it'll work fine with any of our other, much bigger, chainsaws. It's a startlingly complete kit, with three different size round files and even a flat file for the anti-kickback pawls. A lot of folks don't even know that you should file those pawls back to keep your saw cutting well. The instructions sort of suck if you don't already know very well how to sharpen a chainsaw... but there's a huge body of instruction out on the Internet to get you past that. After a very brief learning curve, you won't want the instructions any more anyway.
