Cable continuity test
The network cable tester with LCD can check STP and UTP LAN cables for opens, shorts, and crossovers.
LCD with backlight

I purchased this primarily to troubleshoot a problem with a POE AP. With this device it was easy to see that the AP was getting power, but it was not drawing any power. The AP was getting full power, but was not drawing any power at all. The AP was dead.This device can also check cables to look for opens or shorts. It has other functions as well that I haven't used yet, but I am pleased with my purchase with what it has already done for me.

It may not be sophisticated enough for some, but as an essential, it does a very good job. I like the continuity tester that shows which wire is broken or crossed, the old LED versions always made it a task to find out which wires were the problem. The PoE features are handy and make quick analysis. The case with accessories also is helpful. Overall, this is a great tool for the money and would definitely recommend it.

Not exactly intuitive to use but once I figured it out it worked great for solving some wiring issues I was having with a POE security cam. And was much cheaper than the other more name brand options

I installed/maintain/upgrade my own NVR with 18 cameras. I often use a POE injector to bench test cameras or test my POE switch. I needed something simple to use to test these items. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how tremendously easy the NF-488 is to use. On top of that, it also tests the LAN cables... very useful as I cut my own custom length cables and install my own terminals. A nice additional tool on top of my Fluke 620 meter. For $40, I don't know how you can go wrong with this thing. The case it comes with is only cloth and nothing special, but at this price point with consideration given to the capabilities you're getting, this is a winner.

This is a great tool for quickly checking your Ethernet cables. The tool is basic but this is all you often need to check for a bad cable. Good price and it works.

I used it to test some ethernet cables and it did identify correct and incorrect wiring. The short ethernet cable it came with was intermittent! That through me for a loop at work. I have not tried it on POE yet. If you want a basic cable tester to check correct wiring and POE, this tester will suffice for the money. It is on par with what you would find at Home Depot or Lows. So, if you main use is checking cables or verifying POE this will do it. This is a basic cable tester for DIY go/no go testing.
