It would have been nice to know in advance that it needed a 9 volt battery as I had to go get one before I could use it, but it worked perfectly.

I've had a network cable tester for years that is built like a tank, but lacks the remote feature this one had. I had a network jack in the house that wasn't working and needed a tester with a remote to find the fault or else resort to trial and error fixes. This tool quickly identified the issue and I was able to quickly fix the problem. If that was the only time I use it, it still paid for itself in the time savings. This one isn't built like a tank, but the price is right and it got the job done. The network connectors were a nice bonus.

I bought this because I have 6 Ethernet cables that run under my house between 2 rooms and I needed an easy way to tell which Ethernet cable ends matched up. It turns out this thing helped in another way! After I labeled all the cables using this tester, I ran one more cable to connect a brand new router and satellite unit. Since that cable was a different color, I didn't need to use this tester. The main unit would not recognize that the satellite unit was plugged in. I thought the router might be bad and was ready to box it back up. Then I thought, this tester might tell me if the cable is bad. So I connected it up and it was! The brand new cable was faulty. This thing saved me a lot of time troubleshooting and potentially having returned my new router setup.

Suddenly my router stopped working...fortunately with this tool I could identify it was the wired connection that was at fault instead of replacing the router I was able to replace the wires connection...all set. What an inexpensive & helpful fix. This is easy to use, points the IT sleuth in the right direction, & saves time & money. Also compact & solidly made. Stores easily. Great tool.

I have bought a few of these. They are fine for basic cable continuity testing, however, do NOT ever plug the MASTER unit into a network cable that is connected to a POE switch at the other end - doing so will FRY the circuitry. Hard to believe someone can put a product like this on the market with no input voltage protection. I guess that is why it sells for under $10 USD. Had third one fail - truly junk. If you are going to use a cable tester often, buy a proper one. This one works but they are good for about 4 months and they die.

The product I ordered one evening was delivered the next afternoon. I used the product to confirm that a Cat5 cable was properly wired and functional. I am pleased with its performance as well as its low cost.

Very easy to use and super helpful when troubleshooting network issues. Tested a 200’ cable to confirm it was bad. Tested a new 125’ cable before pulling (it was good), then after pulling the cable to ensure it hadn’t been damaged during the pull (still good). Hooked up router and no WiFi, so I was pretty sure it was the wall plate that was bad. Tested across the whole 125’ cable plugged into inlet side of the wall outlet with another cable plugged into the outlet and it showed 1 wire & the ground didn’t have continuity. Removed the wall outlet and wifi worked great. Handy tool for troubleshooting and for testing new cables before you go to a bunch of trouble installing one!
