And the difference between a long, heavy rig and a shorter, nimble one. Optimized for the compact mirrorless Z system, the Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x increases the reach of compatible lenses by 1.4x (40%) while retaining 100% resolution, AF and VR functionality, minimum focusing distances and weather-sealing.

I took the Z TC-1.4 out for the first time this weekend on a trip to a local wildlife refuge. Partly cloudy and foggy through the evening, so I was worried about the loss of light. I shot between f/9-f/11 on my z180-600mm and it worked out great! Honestly, I did not notice much sharpness different between f/9&f/11. Very happy with this purchase so far!Nikon Z8Z180-600mm

i know teleconverter reduce sharpness by a little but to be honest i couldn't see the difference switching between having it and not having it. it works really well with the 180 to 600mm nikon lens so if you are looking for a cheap telephoto lens that does a good job. get this and the nikon 180 to 600mm. dont waste your time with the x2

Teleconverters seem to be a polarizing topic for photographers. Personally, I avoided teleconverters until I read the reviews for the Z teleconverters. I own both the 1.4x and the 2.0x Z teleconverters, and the 1.4x is good enough that I almost always leave it on my lens when I'm shooting wildlife, especially small birds. The 2.0x teleconverter is just ok, so I only use it when I don't have a better option.Teleconverters represent the art of compromise. They'll give you extra reach, but they'll also degrade your image (particularly contrast) and they'll reduce your exposure (by 1-stop in the case of the 1.4x). So the question is do you really need a teleconverter? If your Nikon Z has DX mode, then you're better off using DX mode (and/or modestly cropping in post) if that fills enough of the frame for your composition.Nikon has done a great job designing some of their Z lenses (I refer to these as their recommended lenses) to pair nicely with the 1.4x Z teleconverter. I don't hesitate to use the 1.4x Z teleconverter on my Z 400mm/f4.5 or my Z 70-200mm/f2.8 in addition to DX mode on my camera. With judicious sharpening in post, the image quality is reasonably close to the naked lens (when pixel peeping). As long as you're not making very large prints, you'd be hard pressed to pick out the teleconverter image from the naked lens.Based on my observations, the image quality is as follows:1) Naked lens, FX mode2) Naked lens, DX mode (or crop in post)3) Nikon recommended Z lens + Z teleconverter, FX mode4) Nikon recommended Z lens + Z teleconverter, DX modeKeep in mind that your ability to (further) crop in post starts to become more limited as you work your way down from option 1 to option 4 above. Nevertheless, I've gotten some really nice images with option 4 with mild/mod sharpening and a modest crop in post.If you need more reach than option 2 can give you, definitely give the Z 1.4x teleconverter a try. I've been very pleased with it.

Works as advertised with Z8 and 180-600 5.6-6.3. No noticeable degradation. Cost is a bit on the high side.

This converter is beautifully sharp, unlike the F mount one which tends to affect the sharpness of the lens. I’ve used this converter on my 70 to 200 and there is no noticeable lost in quality for normal situations. If you pixel peep you’re gonna see some softness but very little.

Best TC I've used and no noticable IQ reduction with the 70-200. AF is great as well. Only complaint is it seems a bit expensive for what it is (but I think that of all TCs). IQ is so good I sold my 300 f4 PF, which is a very good lens.

3-stars mostly on value. 'Wow expensive' for a 1.4 teleconverter...and as an additional slap in the face, it only works on a few lenses. Be 100% sure your lens is on the list before purchasing! That said, this is a definite keeper. I use mine for the added range and don't mind the f-stop deduction. Minimal color distortion only in the far corners (I notice this on stars when used for astrophotography). Otherwise, I'd say that it is nearly optically perfect. Minimal weight and size. Solid construction. I recommend it if you have one of the compatible lenses with the caveat that it is horribly overpriced.

Super fast shipping at an unbeatable price. Item is grey market but I've never needed repair in 18 years for a Nikon teleconverter.Works great on my 800mm and 70-200 Z lenses.

I use this with my z180-600 and z 800. You do lose a stop of light but it works well. Remember do not use TC for reach but rather to enlarge your subject.

It is as described on the web page. It is a very solid item and it feels heavier than it looks.

Nikon produces excellent glass, so this is a no brainer. However, you will damage your sensor if you attempt to install it backwards! The cap on the tele-extender has a graphic indicating which way it mounts, but be cautious to ensure that you don't install it backwards.

Not cheap but quality product that delivers excellent sharpness on Z70-200 and Z7ii. Really useful addition to camera bag
