Willow charcoal

This was a surprise for me after reinventing myself using willow sticks over the years. I'd read of these Nitram charcoals and wanted to experience the reviews. After working with the HB, I'm totally convinced this is my choice regarding painting and illustrating with the Nitram product. I was able to lay down and blend as needed and no mess as with the traditional willow sticks. I was able to sand and hold a point for a smooth feel throughout what I laid in place. No crumbling what so ever. This is a happy start of things to come and I am sold on using the Nitram Academie Fusains to find my voice in charcoal painting. Many doors I'm sure will open to expand my creative senses. Thank you Nitram:}

Il marchio Nitram è il top quando si parla di fusaggini, la durezza HB è proprio quello che ci vuole per avere più controllo del disegno rispetto ai carboncini comuni.

This charcoal was recommended to me by my art tutor. Previously, I always used cheap sticks or pencil versions, but they don't match the quality of this product. Most cheap charcoal pencils are scratchy and crumble when sharpened, and the cheap sticks break easily. Nitram sticks can be 'sharpened' by using an emery board or sandpaper. I wouldn't recommend any expensive sharpener. Although, these sticks are more expensive, it's worth trying them out just to see the difference. They also come in different hardness to suit the purpose. They do break but not as easily as the cheaper ones. I still use cheap charcoal sticks for daily work, and keep these for special occasions, but shall definitely replace them when finished up.
