I bought this to refit to a 30 year old run out gauge. It was easy to adapt. The NOGA base has a M8 x 1.25 thread. My gauge mount has 5/16 - 18 thread. I bought a 5/16-18 coupling nut at the hardware store. Then I screwed a M8 bolt into one end and wrenched (forced) it in about 1/4" deep. I cut off this bolt leaving about 3/8" of thread showing and chamfered the edges. This M8 cut off bolt threaded into the NOGA and my mount threaded into the other end of the coupling. Problem solved for $3.00 and neither component was damaged. Easy peasy. The magnet is strong and it looks like it came that way which is how a good project should look.

You get what you pay for, and you get great stuff from Noga. This holds on to steel much better than the cheaper ones. It's true that you can get the complete magnetic holder with indicator for the price of this, but they have very little holding power. From now on I'm going to stick with Noga. I actually purchased this to replace one of the cheaper magnetic holders.

The base looks and feels like a very high quality product. The holding force on thick, solid iron surfaces is very good. However, it is completely unusable on a thin metal sheet, where there is not enough metal for the magnetic field lines to close between the poles.

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews, as the one I got works perfectly. It was purchased to replace an ancient magnetic base, and I needed to drill and tap two holes in the top of the new one to attach the indicator holder. There was plenty of meat to tap into, and the magnet is about ten times stronger than the old one. Don't know how long it'll last, but for now, this has been money well spent.

I have no way to measure the gripping force other than pushing on them. The Nogas DO have better holding power than the generic brands by that measure. The switch is smoother too.
