So I can't say enough about this little, capable, affordable piece of kit. I do my own cabling for my network. I largely live in Cat 5e. I had an old led type tester that would only show me whether I had a fundamental connectivity problem. That was great for awhile. But recently I moved over to doing pass-through connectors. I noticed on my network switch that my connection speed for a new cable was only 100Mbps though it should have been 1000Mbps. My old tester showed everything was fine, but it obviously wasn't. So I splurged the $50 for this little tester. I confirmed that my crimps were bad due to a faulty crimper. I now speed test all of my new cables with this tester by connecting the tester to one end of the cable and the other end to a spare gigabit switch I have.I liked that it did continuity, length testing and toning. A nice feature is that you can get a reading of the wire speed when you use the toning/flash option. The flash option was great as I wanted to map out my network. I connected to each ethernet jack, connected the tester via a short cable and went into flash mode. I then went to my switch where I could see the light pulsing slowly (differently than regular flashing.) I then noted which switch port that particular jack was connected to.I found that it tones wires fine too.I do run POE+ devices too. So I'll check that out eventually.Anyway. I like it. It wasn't that expensive and did more than I needed it to do. Hoped this helps.

I'm a telecom professional and this tool is great! I'm able to accomplish multiple tasks with this one kit that would normally requires multiple seperate testers! I was a little skeptical at is capability for the price but once you started getting the hang of its wonderful! Im able to test continuity, tone and trace cable, determine the length of cable and even test POE! There is a little manual that comes with it but it's not really a complicated tester. Just make sure you are using the right port on the tester to match the test you are trying to conduct! The cable toner i found to be very adequate! You do have an option to test via digital or analog settings and you can adjust the sensitivity for a solid confirmation. It does come with various adapters for different testing conditions.I was to thrilled about the case. I like the layout and the availability of storing things away but I'd prefer a hard case to house it. There have been a couple times ive had something on the toner wand driving and it would turn on and beep but if thats just a preference thingBOTTOM LINE: Highly recommend for the price! The convenience and funtionality that is packed in this kit is definetly worth this price!

I purchased this unit and have been using it throughout my workday as an AV tech. The POE test, continuity function, and wire length are worth the price alone, but the toner function or 'scan' when using the aligator clips is garbage. The toner / scan function works ok when dealing with only ethernet wiring since it can use all 4 pairs, but using the alligator clips off the RJ11 connector, into a 8 pin jack just doesn't make connection properly. I was unable to identify a single wire with that method. Ethernet like I said works ok, but tone is a little quiet and found that the digital method works the best. That said, I do find the continuity function really nice. The picture I uploaded was during troubleshooting a problematic wi-fi access point. The tester showed me there was a wire problem and exactly what was wrong with the wire. I could see that pairs 4-5 and 7-8 were good and I could make the access point work using those wires until a new wire could be pulled into place. Without the tester I would have to check continuity on each of the 8 wires, taking much more time.Plus I think theoretically I could have use the length function to see exactly how far away the break in the wire was from me, but I didn't try that part.I would actually pair this unit with a separate toner like the inexpensive chinese brand units on here around $25 that come in a blue or orange color, or if you have a larger budget a fluke pro3000 or pro3000f60 toner. That's what I did.

I've had good luck with this so far and I'm pleased with the very fair price. I consider the USB-C charging (for *both* Tx and Rx units) well worth the small upgrade cost from the next model down in their line. Mine did arrive with the receiver (Rx) unit turned on and its battery stone-cold dead. But once charged, everything works as advertised. The controls are simple and intuitive and the display backlight very helpful. In my experience, tools like this typically get used in poorly lit, overcrowded closets.I can't attest to the precision of the distance test, but I know it's reasonably close at my backbone length of around 75 ft (~23m). Even a +/- 5% is very useful for troubleshooting in my setting. One word of advice: They provide a USB-C cable but you're supplying your own charger. I was unable to charge using a 'smart' charger (e.g., Anker IQ). Apparently it only wants an older-style 5V supply. In general, this is something to be aware of with a many devices on the market. I made the mistake of recharging a dive computer with the included cable connected to my own 9V-capable Samsung charger and melted the plastic housing. Not every mfr. implements the necessary circuitry for the smart chargers to correctly detect and adjust. At least in this case, connecting an inappropriate charger PREVENTED charging which might have caused some damage. As such, this is not a con.Another thing to be aware of is that it's very easy to switch between tests and forget to move your cable. There are different RJ45 jacks for different functions. I'm embarrassed to admit how many times I did this. Slow learner, apparently.

I am very happy I picked this tool up. I run alot of ethernet cable of alot of different projects, one being POE cameras and needed to test the POE output and this was able to do that at a great price point compared to alot of other testers out there. Has lots of functions to only need one tester to carry around. Came in a nice carrying case to protect it and increase it's longevity on the job. Found it easy to simple to use.

As I'm not the best installer, I had 3 cables that I'd run through my walls work poorly or not at all. I was using shielded cable (in my amateur radio station, where there's lots of electromagnetic energy present) and I was happy to see that it tested the ground connection as well as the 8 conductors. The continuity test is most useful, where you plug the supplied passive device into the far end and it tells you which wires failed, or were wired incorrectly, or if the ground is not conducting. The TDR function which measures cable length can sometimes help with identifying which end is in error. I had one connector where the wires weren't pushed in all the way and the TDR said this was an open circuit while the other end it was the expected cable length. Another cable that must have had marginal contacts showed the correct lengths at one end, and several different lengths at the other. Replacing the latter connector was the correct choice.I had one socket that had the middle (blue) pair reversed. The continuity test found that straight away, and after inspecting the plug at the opposite end and seeing it was correct, opened up the wall panel and corrected it.There is also a function to identify cables using a (powered) wand which emits an audio tone when near the cable that the main unit is plugged in to. This is another handy feature for narrowing down problems, although for shielded cable you need to have the wand near the connector rather than anywhere along the cable. All in all I fixed everything in a single afternoon, after having them in an unusable state for over a year. So it was money well spent. The unit comes with a little carrying case, and some short cables for testing RJ45, RJ11 and bare wires using alligator clips, and batteries for the two units that need them. The manual is clear enough, although does suffer from somewhat poor use of English.I'm very glad I bought this unit and it works as advertised.
