I have to smile when I read some reviews, I grew up as a teen working with my plumber father, he always used the gold-standard brand tools. So I’m very familiar with quality plumbing tools. While Gunpla taps may not be A&P quality, they certainly are good enough for a plumber. From my experience in plumbing, 95% of the time NPT (National Pipe Thread) taps are used for chasing old crusty threads found in Unions, Elbows, Couplings, and such, rarely for taping new steel. (*Threading* new Black or Galvanized pipe with dies is a different matter entirely) Unlike other machine shop taps, NPT taps carried in a plumbing toolbox are mainly for cleaning up old rusty threaded pipe fittings, and for that purpose, these excel. I do agree the cardboard box they come in won’t hold up long so I found a nice case for the laser-cut foam padding that came inside the box.Without going into their molecular construction, such as how much nickel vs cobalt, carbon, and/or titanium, I snapped a few photos of what I received and how they performed. Be sure and use a dab of thread-cutting oil and work back and forth, slowly deepening the cut. NPT are tapered, unlike normal screw threads, you can’t just go on forever with NPT taps, or dies for that matter. Tensile strength isn’t listed for these, but some brands can reach as high as 1900 MPa, I don’t believe these are those.I dug through my junk box and found a crusty old ‘Elbow’; the ½†tap did a great job with it. With a few drops of cutting fluid and a few back-and-forths, the job was done. You can see the finished Elbow, ready to be placed back in service if necessary. I’m very happy with this small kit, great price also. You may not need them often but when you do… they're inexpensive enough that they’re worth having on hand Just in case.

The product is of good quality, but the 3/4 inch tap did required manual sharpening for it and work properly.

Gunpla NPT Pipe Thread Taps Set 5-Piece, 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", Alloy Steel Internal Thread Forming Tap, Pipes Threading Flutes for Cleaning or Re-Thread Damaged or Jam Pipe ThreadsMy husband was needing both a 3/4" and a 3/8" pipe thread taps for cleaning and rethreading some used cast iron pipe fittings and brass gate valves. After looking at what was available, we decided on getting this 5-piece set of the common pipe sizes. All the taps we received had the proper NPT taper and have straight flutes that are the most common for pipe taps. The flutes on each of these were sharp and the starting flutes are chamfered to guide the tap straight into the hole, minimizing cross-threading. As a simple test to make sure these were at or close to specs, my husband tested them on several clean and undamaged fittings, and they chased the threads as expected. These worked well at cleaning rust and pipe joint compound out the used fittings but also at straightening and recutting any damaged threads. We haven't had a need to try these at cutting entirely new threads so we cannot say for certain how well they would do but we haven't seen anything to give us any concerns. Highly recommend.

I have a large tap and die set but, with the exception of 1/8â€, there are no NPT parts in this set. This product from Gunpla complements my existing set nicely. The product comprises 5 NPT taps covering 1/8†to ¾†and can be used to thread new holes or clean up old ones. These taps are packaged in a soft foam open housing. No case is supplied. No wrench is included which is why having another full tap and die set which includes an adjustable tap wrench will be useful. Note that no dies are included so this product can only be used for internal threading. Most competitive sets are made from carbon steel but I see that these are made from alloy steel. Each type of steel covers a wide range of compositions but alloy steel should be superior. These taps are quite short which means that they can be better at getting deeper into in dead-ended fittings.Initial tests on brass fittings and 3D printed parts indicated that these taps work well. I haven’t tried them on iron fittings yet. This is a good product at a reasonable price, but needs an adjustable tap wrench.

These taps should get the job done, but the machine work was definitely done as inexpensively as possible. I love the fact that these have what appears to be a laser cut and engraved foam cutout, cut to each tap size, to hold the taps securely. I hate that there isn't even a cheap blue plastic box to put that foam cutout in. It arrived in a cardboard box, labeled, but the foam and taps are all that are inside. This box would definitely not hold up in a toolbox with everything else you'd carry if you were the type of person that needs taps like this. At approximately $5.00 per tap (average) this isn't a bad price, considering the cheapest I could find was from that big blue box hardware store at an average of around $7.50 per tap (average). So for this price, I guess it's worth a shot, and will likely do what you need done.
