Product Description

Orion StarShoot AutoGuider
Orion StarShoot AutoGuider
Orion StarShoot AutoGuider Technical Specifications

The Orion StarShoot AutoGuider's sensor is a high-resolution, 1/2" format 1.3-megapixel CMOS monochrome chip, with 5.2 micro x 5.2 micro pixels for highly accurate guiding. That high accuracy due to the small pixel size means you can use the AutoGuider with smaller, less expensive guide scopes than is possible with other guide cameras. The chip resides in a super-compact, anodized aluminum housing that measures just 2.5" wide by 2.35" long and weighs a mere 4.4 oz. It has a 1.25" nosepiece that can be removed to access a T-thread interface.

The AutoGuider's short inward focus requirement of only 15mm from a typical 1.25" Plossl eyepiece makes it compatible with virtually any telescope. The incredible ease of use will appeal to beginning and experienced astrophotographers alike. The included software requires no previous knowledge of autoguiding. It offers automatic calibration and guiding with literally a single mouse click. The camera is powered via your computer's high-speed USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connection with the included 10' USB cable; no other power source is needed.

A 6' RJ-12 cable is also included to connect the AutoGuider to the mount without the need for an additional RS-232 adapter. With the StarShoot AutoGuider, precision autoguiding for deep-sky astrophotography is now easier and more economical than ever. Get one today for your imaging setup! Requires PC running Windows 8, 10 or 11 Operating Systems.

I have been doing astrophotography for quite a few years now. I'd been using a color camera with a 1/3 inch CCD chip as my guide camera. It was never very sensitive and it had problems operating below 30 degrees F. When I was forced to upgrade laptops and it had Windows 8, I found I was unable to use this camera on the USB3 lines. I'd heard some good things about the Orion SSAG and decided to give it a try. This camera is much more sensitive to low light, is compatible with my USB3 ports and has the added convenience of being able to communicate with my Celestron CGEM mount directly. This has reduced my cables going to the telescope. It is also lighter than my previous guide camera.

The Orion SSAG is an affordable autoguider. Works well with PHD and includes all software necessary. The default settings are plug and play. In PHD you may need to alter the advanced settings (brain icon) to help with settling the RA and DEC. Use the graph to monitor and alter settings until the guiding smooth's out. I am happy with my purchase...

This little no frills camera, when used with the included Stark Labs PHD software, does exactly what it's advertised to do. It guides! I have it attached to an Orion ST80 on ADM rings and rails, piggybacked on my LX200. Zero issues with ASCOM interface. My only complaint is that it was backordered by the manufacturer for a couple of weeks, however it was delivered before promised. This may be testament to the popularity of this camera at the right price point. If you need a good CCD autoguider that doesn't break the bank, the Orion SSAG fits the bill.

Great guiding camera if you are using older computers and software. It will not run on 64 bit systems so be sure you are going o stick with 32 bit and older windows systems.

This autoguider isn't very sensitive, and it's often hard to find guide stars. I spent several weeks trying to get good autoguiding out of it using PHD2, but it would often lose the guide star, and sometimes the entire starfield would just disappear for seconds at a time. I finally shelled out some more $$ for a good CCD autoguider, and began to get decent stackable data. ZWO and Starlight XPress both make good cameras that are much better than the SSAG.

You will either love it or hate it. It works great with PHD2, but I couldn't find a driver that would work with the Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 that I have - maybe that's because my Windows OS is running under Parallels on a Mac.

Downloaded software from Orion Web Site. Camera working very well on all my OS's. Windows XP lap top, widows XP desk top, And windows 8.1 desk top. So far camera works great! Very easy to use. People who are having problems with this. Just needs to make sure they have the correct drivers installed. Windows 8.1 gave me some problems for a time. But now. Good To Go! Works great imaging tree limbs on the next street. Can't wait to try it out on the stars!

Very good product eventually. Had problems (not the product's fault) using Orion 50mm guide scope and PHD guiding program. Make sure to adjust the Calibration step from the default 1000 to 2500 or even 3000ms.when using that or any small guidescope. It works flawlessly then. Nicely finished and solid build quality.
