PCI cards are fast, and if you have an older computer, you probably don't have many, or any, USB Type C ports. That is a problem since almost every electronic device you can purchase right now uses a USB Type C to recharge its batteries. You can get USB Type A to USB Type C cords, but it is easier to just have USB Type C to USB Type C cables with a power brick that has a USB Type C port, and with this PCIE expansion card, your computer will have two USB Type C ports that you can use for data transfer and/or charging. It isn't as simple as just buying a new computer that has those ports already, but it is a LOT cheaper. The card is easy to install inside your desktop computer. You just need to make sure that you have a free PCIE expansion slot free before you purchase this card. 5 stars.

Do not buy.Does not work, no plug and play, and requires non standard drivers.Cd sent with device has multiple drivers for usb devices but not for this device. Word doc on CD failed to open and was blocked as potentially malicious.Manufacturer website fails to load.Everything seems very odd, I would recommend not buying.

I have a Windows 10 machine with no USB C ports, which is most annoying when trying to use an external drive or do data transfers, so when I saw this I jumped on it. It installed and worked with no additional drivers or configuration - truly plug and play - and it's so much faster. At this price it's a no brainer! Recommend.

This is the easiest way to add USB C to a small (LFF) computer. This won't work in a Mac, but works well for Windows and Linux. it's nice that it has drivers all the way back to XP.Pros:+ half-height PCIe card+ easy install+ 2 USB C portsCons:- not Mac compatible?- could use power input to provide more than 75W total PD

I only had the one port and figured this would be better then an adapter. Just get the adapter or a better motherboard to get one with more ports if you need this for a drawing tablet and want it to be recognized as a second monitor. Works great if you you need it for a tablet with no screen of its own.

i took a chance ordering this. I didn't do my usual chipset compatability checks first before ordering. I am a Linux user and know that not every device will work with Linux; but I had hopes.Does this PCIe card work with Linux? Yes. But with caveats. The Via website says it works with "various kernels." That was helpful. (sarcasm) Upon doing an internet search, I found kernels that are said to work. This card requires certain customizations to be made within a kernel for it to work. I Installed the kernel but there were issues.I decided to not proceed further. Below lists the steps I, as a Linux user, would have to make:1. I would have to install Windows. Why? The firmware is buggy on this card and a firmware update would be required and it can only be installed from Windows. For someone who's accustomed to using other operating systems, installing Windows is a long and painful experience. It also always seems to mess with the MBR which makes yet another thing to fix. (Time, time, time.)2. After installing Windows, to install the firmware update without issues, one should remove the drivers for this add in card first. (Drivers are buggy and interfere.)3. Then update the firmware.4. Install a custom Linux kernel.5. Possibly adjust the kernel boot iommu settings and in some other place in the system.6. Hope it all works because evidentially there is a conflict with this card and AMD drivers on Linux. My system is AMD based. One disappointment after another. So, I opted to not go through all of this. Especially, since it may not even work.Final Thoughts:It would have been nice to have USB-C ports on my PC since many modern peripherals are coming with only USB-C connections. At this time, it's just not worth the effort. I'm still going to rate this low because the research I had to do revealed that even Windows users have had a difficult time with this chipset because of the poor quality drivers and the buggy firmwares associated with it. The poorly coded firmware is really what makes this take too much time to deal with. Too many tweaks are needed just to be able to use a USB port; a simple USB port. If you already have Windows installed then this may be worth your efforts but it is not worth mine.

I got this hoping to add a type c port to my PC and I will say this works but not very well. Honestly the speed is not very good. You are honestly better off just using an adapter than anything. If you need a type c port with poor speeds this will work. It look nice but does not perform very well. At least this does come with a low profile bracket so you can use this on mini PC.. Also you will need to make sure your motherboard has a PCI-E slot. Also make sure there is enough space to put this card in. I installed this with windows 10 and it started working upon boot up. It does come with a installation disk but I did not need it. I am unsure how it will work for windows 7 or 8 but for windows 10 it works pretty well. I am able to plug in two type c ports but honestly the transfer speed is not that great with any device. Again you are better off just using USB adapter to get type c port. They are are side by side so it does not give you much wiggles room. It does not support video so do not expect to plug in HDMI to type C and get a video output. I have tried this directly below my GPU, above my GPU, and it had no heat issues. It again does have a low profile bracket if you are going to be using this in a low profile desktop but I found it usually only has a PCI-E x 1 which does not work with this card unfortunately. Exchanging the brackets does require a screw driver to remove the plate. Overall this card is not very good. It does not perform very well and you're better off just using an adapter than this card. It is very easy to install and with windows 10 it automatically starts working but the transfer speed definitely needs work.
