This arrived sharp and knocks out kindling with ease. I'm sure I'll put a little better edge on it, but I'm really happy with the purchase.

I only use a hard rubber mallet on non-business end backside, for example, to start peel of log bark. Hitting the backside with steel would probably damage or possibly crack the head.

I want to start with the fact that I have used axes for years im not new to them and ive used plenty of different kinds and sizes. The axe seemed to be a nice deal and when I got it in the mail I was excited, however after unpacking it I realized that it has no sharpness and that it is extremely brittle. The head is secured by glue and a small divit in the wood, it is not secured at all well and when I took it out of the packaging the head flew off. after inspecting the handle there was no damage to it simply the axe head is to heavy for the strain it puts on the bond. If I had been swinging that axe at something that head flying off could seriously injure of kill someone so I am extremely upset that it was made so poorly. I am returning the item and I hope to get my money back so I can go buy something that will actually be SAFE.

Just tried it out. Lightweight for my senior hands. Perfect for trimming small branches and pesky garden roots.

We bought this hatchet to chop kindling and it's been working well. It's just the right weight and the smooth uninterrupted blade makes it easier to split wood into smaller pieces.
