I was so glad when I saw these here. I have a bat that rattles a bit when used. Once I put the mat under it everything cleared up and stopped rattling. I'll be ordering more of these soon.

I've been using the Pottery Head Bat Mate pad for a while now, and I have to say, it’s been great. At first, I didn’t think I needed a bat pad, but once I started using it, I quickly realized how much more stable my clay feels during both throwing and trimming. The pad really eliminates any movement or wobbling from the bat, which was a big issue with my older ones. I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in my work with a lot less adjusting mid-throw. Plus, it makes removing the bat from the wheel much easier. It’s versatile enough to handle projects of all sizes—from small mugs to larger bowls. Whether I’m doing a delicate trim or shaping something bigger, the pad keeps everything securely in place, meaning fewer interruptions to reposition the bat. This has made my workflow smoother and faster, allowing me to focus more on the clay itself. For such a small investment, this pad has made a big difference in efficiency and precision. It’s definitely improved the quality of my work, and I’d recommend it to both beginners and experienced potters who want more control and stability on the wheel.

Perfect for pottery creation on or off the wheel texture allows it not to stick to the clay to bad and easy to peel off if stuck to it.

I've been a believer in bat mates/ bat pads for several years, since being introduced to them by my first pottery instructor. They help stabilize slight wobbles or small warps in bats that you might not even notice, but once you add the bat mate, you'll feel the difference. Bats have something more than the bat pins (which might be loose or uneven without you even noticing) to "grab" onto, and will rest more evenly on the wheel. This is a great price for a bat mate / bat pad, and I notice no discernible difference between this one and the others I own, including some made by the original maker. It washes up well, re-hydrates just fine, and fits my 12" wheel perfectly.

These work great as a substitution of the brand name Xiem bat mates! The color lasts a bit longer, but does eventually fade the same as the brand name ones. These work really great for wheel throwing and keep the bat from the dreaded wiggle!

I love this! I use these for many things around my studio. This one worked well at keeping my bat from slipping on the wheel but it was also good for keeping my rims nicely cushioned while I trim the bottoms of mugs and bowls. Easy to clean up and pretty durable.

The bat mate is a thin pad of spongy fabric--pretty much like synthetic chamois--for placing underneath pottery bats to keep them from rocking and sliding around while you center your clay. It has to be wetted and wrung out to work. If you store your bats in a stack on a flat surface, they won't warp and rock. If your bat pin holes become enlarged, drill new ones. I was thinking maybe I could use the bat mate by itself for trimming bowls, but tapping on center is so much easier. The damp pad does stick remarkably well to a flat surface, I just haven't found a use for it yet.
