These small, disposable test strips are commonly used to detect the presence of phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) tasting ability. PTC is a chemical compound that some people are able to taste, while others cannot. PTC paper strips are used in various scientific and medical settings to determine whether an individual has the genetic ability to taste PTC.

When placed on the tongue, the PTC coated strip dissolves and releases the PTC compound, which interacts with the taste receptors in the mouth. If an individual is able to taste the PTC, they will experience a bitter or unpleasant taste, while those who cannot taste PTC will not notice any particular taste.

The PTC paper strips are easy to use and are commonly used in educational settings to demonstrate the principles of genetics and inheritance. They are also used in research studies to explore the genetic basis of taste and other traits.

The clear storage vial contains 100 PTC paper strips, each measuring 6mm x 48mm.

This was a super fun experiment! Precision Laboratories sends you 100 strips of paper coated in phenylthiourea, which is a chemical that either tastes extremely bitter or like nothing depending on the taster. The ability to taste PTC is encoded by the TAS2R38 gene, which codes for a taste receptor on the tongue. This is an interesting product for educators and curious minds alike. To answer some of the questions listed above: This product does not have an ingredients list. I would assume that it is just because it is only paper and PTC, but if you have concerns I would contact the seller. The strips do not come with any instructions, and most science experiments online do not indicate any clear steps either. I would recommend not doing this experiment if you have just burnt your tongue. Other than that, just rinse your mouth out with some water, place the strip on your tongue, and close your mouth. Super tasters like me will immediately want to remove it!***I would recommend purchasing this very early in advance if you needed it for a specific date, like for a specific class. This product was fulfilled by Amazon and I had a ton of issues getting it. I had two day shipping but it took almost two weeks because the product never arrived and then Amazon made me purchase it again myself. I was kind of annoyed with Amazon's customer service but did not want to take it out on what seems like a very reputable company!

SooooooI guess we here in our home are not super tasters. Bummer.I didn't even know of such a title until a facebook friend mentioned these test strip thingies you could get to test how sensitive your palette was. She said that herself the strips (not these, same thing different brand) she couldn't taste anything but her husband tried it and immediately gagged it was so bitter for him!Well of course my first thought was "We want to gag too!!!" Er...... well not really but I was very curious about this whole palette super taster thingy and when I found out the ridiculously cheap price for 100 of these strips, well....game on. We'll see who is super...My friend is in another country and she had to pay twice as much for only THREE strips. So at the very least I can confirm this is an excellent deal! The only thing is apparently neither my husband or myself are super tasters. What the what? I have never been so disappointed to not gag or taste bitter.... *sniff*I felt a little silly laying out funds for these but the thing is, it's a cheap thrill and it really did satisfy my curiosity. Plus with sooooo many of the little strips I was able to pass them along to some one else who assured me they were going to make all their friends try them. hahaSo, this is like a really weird pay it forward type situation I got myself in to.Anways, I presume they work....and under that assumption I have to believe I am not a super taster...super yes...but my palette is not that sensitive. No problem, bring on the bold red wines, dark roast coffees and garlic. I can take it ;)These were fun and I could see them being a really unique/peculiar/funny stocking stuffer or something... party favor? haha

My husband and I tried the strips. He could not taste anything but paper. To me, the strip tasted more like alcohol than bitter. Don't know what that means. Definitely had a lingering taste, but not terrible. Had to rinse my mouth a couple of times to get rid of it. The only negative is that there are no instructions that come with it. I had to find a website that said not to eat or drink before using it.

I’m a science teacher and love having activities. When we do the traits activity, ptc paper tasting is part of it. Since I have the gene for tasting ptc paper, it’s fun to watch all the faces of those who also have it. The paper is horrible tasting.

These are great and so interesting! I'm so glad my friend told me about them. I didn't turn out to be a super taster, but my sister and boyfriend are. It was 1000% worth the $6 I spent on these for the humor of watching my sister and boyfriend deal with the bitterness. Definitely a fun and interesting activity. Now that I have 100 of these, I plan to do it at every social gathering moving forward hahaha. Highly recommend!

I got this because I believed my niece and I are supertasters. Turns out we are!! So is my sister and her other children. The only one who tried this test that tasted nothing was my mom. It was so easy and simple to use that even my 3 year old nephew did it right.

I haven't found a single person that says it tastes bitter. Maybe no one I know has the gene.... or this is a genius ploy to sell tiny pieces of paper.... either way, just buy it. If it doesn't work, at least your helping someone make there millions.

It works, tastes gross to me, but some others can't taste it at all

My boyfriend and I have always suspected I was a supertaster due to how much more I taste in 'bland' foods and how I hate a lot of food that tastes bland to him. Sure enough, I am a supertaster and he is not. Also found out that my sister and mom are, but my dad is not. Must be genetic!Fair warning, this thing is VILE if you are a supertaster. It's like licking battery acid. Have a drink and something strong to chew on right next to you or anyone taking this as they will need it if the test is positive.

Received the package in proper condition, though delivery was a bit late but the product was good. Bought the tasting paper for a project and it actually worked.

In linea con le striscette fornite da altre marche, ma in questo caso devo dire che il barattolino rende impossibile prendere una striscetta senza toccare le altre con le dita e questo è poco igienico purtroppo quando si effettua uno screening del gusto con diverse persone.
