Used this crash drum to attenuate reflections from a cavernous space for filmed interviews. I didn't expect to have great results but they shattered my expectations. Great for dialogue recordings too!

I had my eye on this product for a good while before I broke down and bought one. In short: yes, you can live without it. It's hard to position correctly, and it doesn't make a staggering difference in cymbal bleed. I tip my hat to Primacoustic for the idea, but for the price, I expected more.

The "spillage" reduction is claimed as a by-product and is stated as such by the manufacturer. The primary purpose of this is:1. Protect your mic.2. Get silly kids to buy something to protect their mics as they have little to no control as to where the next hit is destined to land.

Nothing super fancy about this, it’s a physical plastic barrier lined with foam, that keeps audio from the hi hats in our case from getting into the snare mic. Works!

I bought this based on reviews and advertising. I'm was trying to avoid bleed over from other drums while recording them. Don't waste the money, use noise gates or a good expander to lessen the input from other drums/cymbals instead. I can't tell a discernible reduction in bleed over at all using a Shure SM57 on the batter head of my snare. Just not doing what it advertises, this item may deserve 3 stars. However, I took one more away due to the size of this device--it is a big rectangular intrusion into the space of the head of the drum and it's very hard to miss with the drum stick. Of course any time you to hit this instead of the drum, you get no snare sound and have to edit out the mishit and paste in another snare hit. Not worth it if you can automate noise gate on the snare and save the tedious part of editing out the mishit. One reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it actually held up to a TON of punishment after hitting it dozens of times. Not even a scratch on the surface of this thing! If it works for you, great! Know that it will stand up to some hard-hitting pressure (I play hard rock so I'm kind of a hard hitter).
