Works like those old nail pencils which no longer seem to exist. It isn't remotely water proof, but will whiten the underside of the nails and last a few days even with light hand washing.

They work just like chalk, easy to wash off. Almost impossible to sharpen with out breaking the "lead". Pencil seemed to have been roughed up, because I lost about 3/4inch of "lead" right out of the box. Other than that they work great.
