  • It's designed for testing the sugar content of grapes and predicting the alcohol degree of wine which would be produced from these grapes.
  • With this refractometer, you can pick out ideal grapes for making wine easier and quicker.
  • The extra large scale range of brix 0-40% lends itself to many other uses too. You can use it to test the brix of any liquid.
  • Automatic Temperature Compensation makes it even easier to get fast results.
  • Easy operation and save big: just need 2-3 drops of solution, you can get accurate readings.

Product Description

aichose is a professional brand of supplying various kinds of liquids measuring instruments.

The refractometer series are based on the principle that the refractive indices of liquids change when the concentration change. It's portable, easy, quick and no battery required, easier and more accurate than a traditional hydrymeters, more affordable than a digital meter. It's a perfect tool for adult or young, home or professional use.

It features high-quality optics with smooth focusing. Its main body is made of aluminum alloy. The internal optical lens with high refractive index make up the precision optical system. The instrument is resistant to abrasion and corrosion, can be used to measure the general corrosive liquid. (But we do not recommend measuring these liquids for a long time. The residue should be cleaned immediately after measurement. )

with this refractometer, you can:

  • Checking brix of your grapes to see if they are ready for harvest.
  • Pick out ideal grapes for making wine and predicting the alcohol degree of wine which would be produced from these grapes.
  • The extra large scale range of brix 0-40% lends itself to many other uses too. You can use it to test brix of other liquid.

The Principle

The Basic principle of wine brewing is that, the grape yeasts turns the sugar in the grape juice into alcohol and carbon dioxide. So basically, the higher the sugar content of the grapes is, the higher alcohol degree of wine it will produce.

Why you must have it?

  1. Take full control of your brew with this Brix Refractometer by testing brix and predicting alcohol degree at any point during the process to optimize the quality and flavor to your satisfaction. Our refractometer will make you more efficient at making wine by substituting the traditional hydrometer with the handheld brix refractometer.
  2. The build-in automatic temperature compensation feature makes it possiable to get consistently accurate reading, you don't need to control the temperature of the aqueous solution deliberately, just make sure it's room-temperature ( between 0-30 degree) .
  3. Durable & Safe material:This wort refractometer is constructed with non-staining, non-corrosive and non-reactive chromium material which make sure hygiene and safety for all-grain and extract novice or master brewers.
  4. Portable compact package: The refractometer comes with dropper, screwdriver, user manual and cleaning cloth, all included in a hard compact case, the item dimensions is 8"x3"x2", the item weight is only 8.8 ounces. makes it very portable and easy to carry around.

I accidentally became a vintner this year my friends got a second home and would no longer be at their original place for the grape harvest. They were kind enough to give me all of their equipment to use. So, I figured I could do this. After doing a ton of research, I realized there was this one critical piece missing. I figured it would be worth this small investment to give me a better chance at success.Boy, did it! Because to my untrained eyes, those grapes sure look ripe. The meter says otherwise. I probably have another month to watch winemaking videos. It was also nice to send these pictures to them to give them confidence in what I had learned so far.I see many other uses for this as I love making jelly. With this refractometer, I can better figure out how much sugar to add to enhance the sweetness and not overpower the fruit flavor. This is going to be an incredibly useful too. This is an item that I purchased.

This seems to be pretty accurate.

This refractometer goes up to a higher measurement of refractivity than most of the refractometers for beer, so it can be used for higher gravity brews, e.g. wine and strong mead. That said, I've only used the Brix scale on here and have ignored the other one about "Degree Alcohol."I haven't verified if the automatic temperature correction (ATC) works as intended, so I'm leaving it out of my review. One of the pins holding the clear plastic cover to the hinge was a bit loose and prone to slipping out when the refractometer was held sideways; a dab of super glue fixed that, and I've been quite satisfied with this product.Short update: I've had this refractometer for a little over a year, and it continues to work well. I never have to recalibrate it, and the temperature auto-correction seems to work. I don't really have a way to necessarily verify for sure that the ATC is working, but after plugging in my numbers from the Brix scale into a formula to compute initial specific gravity, it was only .002 off from my target gravity as given by an online calculator. So I'd say it's great!

I got this device to help determine the sugar content of my grapes and optimum harvest time. Calibrate it first with distilled water and it seems to yield good results. Easy to read. Comes in a nice case with instructions. I’m pleased with this purchase and would recommend it.

This was a great addition to my kidding kit. We were able to head off some problems early on in low immunoglobulin level. Those at 18 Brix needed supplementation from the colostrum collected at 21 or higher from other donator does.

This is a great & must have tool for anyone serious about winemaking; this device will give you the information you need to determine the balance of sweetness for you wine fresh from the fruit/grapes you choose to use.It will also give you a rough look at the potential for alcohol.I couldn't be more pleased!
